Default Civic Electrical ?

Hey guys...Im running a Kenwood 600w amp and Im having problems with my headlights dimming and whatnot. The first month I had this setup I had no problems with it, then one day it started to do this. I think I need a Cap, but can somebody help me out with what to do? Is this a common problem?? Everyone Ive talked to said it sounded like I was killing my alternator, but Im not so sure about that. My amp is good and my sub is good, but it just started acting up and I cant seem to figure it out??? I even sent my amp back to Kenwood because I thought that was the problem. Please somebody help me!!!

Your alternator shouldn't have a problem with 600w. Check your ground wires, and upgrade the ground wiring under the hood. Do a search for the 3 magic wires. A cap might help, but it can also make the problem worse.

Well lets see, the louder you play the music, the more draw that is needed. Unfortunately Hondas have small alternators as well as batteries, which come right from the factory. My suggestion to you would be a couple things: First, change your battery and put an Optima Red Top in there. Second, get a 1 farad capacitor. With these two combined, you will not have anything dim anymore

Upgrading the ground wires is much cheaper than buying a $100+ battery.

Good point Shotta,

How times have you seen a car with a big fat B+ wire going to the stereo, and nothing but the stock chunk of 400 ga. (I know, I know) on the ground side...?
