Hey guys-
My steering has sucked *** for awhile now. I finally got it looked at and the shop said it might be my rack n pinion. I know it's gonna be a pain to replace, but i want to make sure it is before i go ahead and start it. When my car is turned on or off and i turn the wheels to the left or right, even slightly, it makes a high pitch sqeaking noise, annoying really. But when i drive at higher speeds (40+) i don't hear it anymore, until i come to a slow stop. Even nodging the steering wheel causes it to make noise. You guys think its the rack too? Or should i get under there and take a better look at the joints and struts? It is lowerd and recently i raised it up. (adjustable coil overs) Anyone else have the same problem?
Thanks

Same squeeking and creaking noises came from my suspension at a dead stop and nudging the steering wheel. It turned out to be a bad outer tie rod, the bushing had split and there was no grease left in it.
well if it did come to changing out the rack and pinion, it can be done. As long as you have a full day or two and some basic tools.
but to answer your question, yes i would check underneath for obvious things that might look wrong, i.e. any noticable leaks, bad tie rod joints.

Yes, I agree. I had to pull mine out to replace my subframe. Took two days to pull them both out and put them both back in, but that was only working for a couple hours each day.

that might be it considering i did a tranny swap recently and i might have busted the outer tie rod. Shiets i hope it is. LoL. Being that it'll take 2 days, that might suck. Did it take you guys 2 days with an air compressor too? Or just reg. hand tools?

it shouldnt take 2 days to do a rack ... it takes me 3 hours just be sure to make the wheels straight before attaching the steering collum also make sure you count the threads on the tie rod when removing it then reinstall it with the same amount of threads showing .... and
also try to flush the lines so you get all the old fluid out and fill the resivor and turn the wheel back and forth 20 times before starting so you get all the air out of the lines
if you take your time and do it right you shouldnt have a hard time and you will save alot of money ..... good luck

No no, you took that the wrong way. It took me two days because the first day I pulled both the subframe and rack out while the second day I put the subframe and rack back in. In all it only took about 4 hours.
