Default Weight savings...

Has anyone actually weighed what they've taken out...I'm just wondering what the total savings of:

Rear seats
Rear Seat belts
Spare
Spare Cover
Rear Carpet
rear side panels
Rear sound deadening material
Hatch cover

is?

I'm guessing you would save 100 to 150 lbs. That is with a completely gutted rear. The seats are less than 10 lbs. The speakers are a few pounds. The spare is probably 20 to 30 lbs. The carpet is a few lbs. The antenna saves a few, as does the rear wiper. When it is all added up it could probably be up to 150 lbs. with the sound deadening/tar material also.

*switched PS rack to manual Civic CX unit
*ditch OE manifold and cat for a 4-1 w/ test pipe
*remove sound deadening(GSR/LS only)
*remove rear wiper and motor
*shave antenna and remove antenna motor
*driver and pass. air bags
*SRS harnesses and SRS control module
*apexi' WS suspension (total 12lbs. lighter than stock altogether)
*aluminum flywheel(much lighter than stock)
*remove passenger side dash brace(thick *** bar behin dash)
*lightweight rotors
*leightweight wheels
*AEM (lighter than OE intake system)
*remove strut tower bar and rear upper and lower body braces, also considering sway bars.. but this was DRASTICALLY hurt the car's handling and performance
*switch out power door lock actuators for Integra RS units
*spare tire and jack(DUH)
*evap and emissions system and canister (not applicable to all. there is no emissions or inspection here, so I do it.)

If you are serious about weight, gas weighs a ******* ton. When you race, make sure you are close to empty, if weight is that important to you.

for removing the tar. I've actually done it in warmer weather and didn't run into any problems either.

In my GSR, I never fill her up past 1/2 way anymore. She feels too slow when I do that.

I havea gutted back area with sound dampening removed.

Amazingly the sound dampening material weighs a very good amount. So I suggest everyone remove that if they have some time.

If you only fill your car up 1/2 way for about a month. Then fill her up to FULL. You'll notice a HUGE change. Then when she's on 1/8th of a tank she'll perform at her best b/c there's almost nothing in the car.

took out those and didn't make that much of a difference. thought mayb my car would be way faster but i guess the turbo made it the same. So i had to put back most of the things including the center console and some tools i carry with me in the car just in case if $hit happens. I think the car looks and feels better with interior. if i was going to take out everything, then i would probably do it on a civic or something not an acura.

Well I took out my back seats and I think it looks ok, some of the sound material too, and I have fiberglass fender and racing seats...so I trimmed some lbs...

Also guys if you're wondering how much your car weighs ever you can goto a sand and gravel dealer (ya know in the industrial sections of cuties) they have a scale for the trucks and are usually very kind and let you use it...

I don't want to hijack the thread as well, but I have a question. I am also thinking of taking things out of my car for weight reduction (when I pay off my car in a year and some months), like the rear seats and such. I plan on driving my car for a long time so would it be okay to throw away the seats and everything I take out? I wouldn't have anywhere to keep them. So if I decide to sell the car at some point, would I just sell it without the things I took out or would people not be interested in the car?

If you take out seats and such, don't throw it away. you can make a lil money by selling it. Later if you decide to sell and nobody bites, you can buy stock seats again.

the best way to take off the sound deadining tar is to use dry ice, mallet, and a hammer...it worked like a charm for me
