Default Are AEM Pulleys illegal?

I live in California and i got pulled over the other day and the officer said they were illegal. Luckily he let me go with a fix it ticket. When i bought the pulleys the guy at the shop told me they were legal. Does anyone know if they are illegal or not?

You are joking, right? Fix it ticket for pullies? Why was he looking in your engine bay anyway? Did you give him permission to search your car? Sounds like BS to me. No way they are illegal.

i have the evo exhaust and he pulled me over for that but it's legal and he wanted to get me for something so he told me to open my hood, thinking i had something under it. he was a dipshit. thanx for that info. i'll be talking to the sdpd sometime in the next few days.

Just because he pulled you over for exhaust does not give him probable cause to search your vehicle or look at what is under the hood. I would consult a lawyer and fight the ticket in court( stating it was a wrongful search).

All the pullies do is slow down whatever they run so they do not drain as much power from the engine. There is no way they are illegal. They actaully help with fuel acomony.

Like you said this cop just wanted to get you for something because he could not get you for your exhaust.

Just plead not guilty. There is no way pullies can be illegal...

Sometimes I'm glad to be in Ohio...

as far as I've understood it...any kind of modification to any car in cali is illegal (parts of cali). So its not the AEM pulleys its the fact that you have modifications to your car.

from what i understand from my cop friends, just having an exhaust (or any other noticable mods) gives them enough probable cause to search the rest of the car for other mods.

What a crock of crap. Here in AZ I can drive all day with my .45 loaded and a round chambered sitting in my front seat in plain view and no cop will say a word about it. At least when I move to CA in two weeks, I'll be in an area where mods don't matter. I still can't believe there is any legal basis behind searching your car for "illegal mods". This would probably be worth a fight in court.

They are not illegal, since they do not have any effect on emissions equipment. Fight the ticket, and you could probably get a settlement, but that may be an NC thing.

all I will say is **** you, I know many officers personally and they are as down to earth as they get, everyone assumes a cop is a dick and has a bad attitude with them, how would you react?

you want to insult the police force do it on another board, don't bring that **** in here or you will not last long

I agree. I've had little trouble with the police that I didn't deserve. It usually seems to be that those that hate cops are the ones who's actions routinely attract cops. There are exceptions, but most are great everyday people.

Urbanlegend is right. These men and women are putting there lives on the line every single day and night. If somebody stole your car the first thing you would do is call the cops, and cry and whine for them to help you get your precious baby back. Shame on you for bad-mouthing the police. Their job is to uphold the law and protect our rights. It is dumb-*** *****'s like you who will do something illegal and then bitch when you get caught. You say "it's not fair" , "why don't you go out and catch real criminals" or " don't you have something better to do then bother me". If you don't do anything wrong then you don't have to worry about the cops. They are not the ********, you are.

my intake has the carb sticker on it so there was nothing he could say about that even if he wanted to. i've never had any problems with cops, they've been good to me before. it was just this one cop but oh well. all i can do is fight it.

in california anything modded is illegal pretyt much. as for the cop searchin ur car, he has the right to. if u dont let them, they'll just tow it or get a search warrant and if u make the cop go through all that trouble, they will be pissed off. my .02

i'm sorry but the vast majority of cops are ******** that are on powertrips. if you live in a small town, they have nothing better to do, but mess with you. not all our however i do realize this, there are some nice cops. unfortunelty there are a small percentage of them.

i went to the cops cause my car got smashed in my driveway, they did **** for me since i couldn't prove who did it. i think the cut above the persons eye from being punched shows motive to me especially after occuring hours after. i had another friends who got his car fucked up twice, by his neighbors. cops did jack.

their right is to uphold the law and protect our rights. how does pulling someone over for a shiny exhaust protect me? i want him getting someone that sells drugs, steals, or kills people. the problem is cops want to write tickets to make money for the state and make themselves look good so they get promoted. traffic violations are an easy way to do it and pulling over hot rod imports you can usually find something to cite them on. it's racial profilling, but with cars instead.
