Help request: About my weird fuel indicator (needle)
Ever since I bought my 93 Civic CX (for 10 months), I have noticed that the needle for fuel indication is acting funny.
During acceleration (2.5k or above), the needle would drop at least 1/8 of the entire range. If I accelerate and do a right turn, the needle will drop like 1/4; so from 3/4 of the tank to 1/2 indication. Now after the car is settled and cuirsing, the needle would go back up 1/8 @ max. If I added a left turn to this, then I will get like 1/4 of the tank back! Finally, if I go downhill easy the needle would rise a little.
I know the amount of fuel doesn't give and go like what the needle indicated, so I wonder if it is a particular sensor malfunctioning?
I have also heard that all Civic has this weakness, so I should NEVER look at that anyway. But I just found that a bit annoying, and very weird. I understand that the needle shall drop b/c the car is using up fuel, but it just shouldn't rise (and even like 1/4 of the tank) that dramatically.
Any idea and help on this? TIA!!!

Its because the fuel level sensor sits at the front of the tank so if you are going downhill all the fuel shifts to the front causing the sensor to read more fuel.
Okay, I am bringing this topic back up...for the reason that the indication is getting worst (or at least that's what I think).
The other day I was going home after school and the civic stop on a red light to do a left turn. It stopped slowly and it's a bit inclined, so the fuel needle drop about 1/8 of the tank.
Then, when car started to turn left, I noticed the needle droped but had to keep my eyes on the road. After the 90 degrees turn was done, I noticed the needle dropped from a bit less than half tank to almost empty!
Soon I had to make a right turn, and afterward the needle went back to a bit over 1/4 tank...
I mean this is just driving me crazy...I can use the odo well, but my gf is asking me if there's a fix to this problem? Since I do not know of an answer, I am hoping someone who can give me some idea.
Thanks in advance for any info!

I have no idea on a fix....mines really screwy. I was at a stop with just over half a tank and the needle dropped all the way to E and stayed there. Later, after I got moving it slowly came up and then dumped back down to E.
Personally, I don't give a **** since I know how much fuel I use and how far I can drive. Its annoying, but as long as you know your fuel ecconomy range, just use the trip meter to judge when you need to refuel.

Ah, so it's not just mine that works like this...wish someone had done a fix to this, like maybe getting the fuel sensor thing from, um, integra?
She's a very nice car, just kind of odd on that particular design.

Do you happen to have any aftermarket ignition in the car?
I just changed some stuff on my car and testing out something that may have fixed my fuel gauge.

I have the same problem in my 92 CX. But it all goes back to normal after a few minutes of cruising in fifth. I notice it going down when i am accelerating 1-4 gears.
That's normal....my problem is much more severe. Just sitting still, with the needle just about 1/2, the needle would drop to E and stay there. Then slowly creep back up to where it was. The car didn't move the whole time, just idling.
Similar things would happen just cruising in 5th gear on the freeway.
