If you were in my shoes..would you get an ITR?
I'm going to school that's within a city that is well known for car theft. It seems every other car around here is driven by your typical gangster asian types with the dope azz hondas.
I know two guys that live on my floor (25guys) that had their cars stolen in the same week. Also, I worked with someone that has a friend that had his Civic stolen 3 times in 1 year.
Would it be a good idea to get an ITR, a good alarm, and not worry about it? I'm sure there are guys out here that would know exactly how to steal the car. I'll be living in a gated community next year, but don't know about the two following.

With those theft rates, hell no I wouldn't get an ITR. Maybe if you stayed in that gated community, but that doesn't guarantee the cars safety either. Get the ITR and a beater, that way you can leave the ITR at home and take the beater to school.
Having an R, and not worrying about it does not happen. With the R comes the frustration with thieves. If you can handle it and still enjoy the car, then go for it. But if you are going to spend all of your time worrying about it, then get another car.
Stupid theft..
It seems the thieves are pretty selective for cars they can use for parts..
There are maybe 4 E46 M3s on campus, an NSX, C43 AMG, few 7-series, new 911, etc, etc, and they seem to be just fine...
just buy it. if its going to get stolen, its going to get stolen. thats what insurance is for. there are lots of Hype Rs out there that dont get stolen. obviously chances vary depending where you live, just make sure that your insurance policy has theft coverage and dont worry about it. no matter that kinda security you have, if someone wants to take it, they will get it, so dont let it bother you and just enjoy it while you have it. w3rd.

dsludefosho: The dorm parking lots. There are some nice cars there, but it seems they're not the cars that are stolen.
Sigh, maybe I should go with an SUV..but I have an over hour drive home every weekend on backroads/hills that have basically no traffic on..

Maybe get a Miata or an RSX... but I have experience with ITR's and dorm parking lots. They don't mix. It's a hassle that isn't worth it.

If I were in your shoes, no, I would not get the car. Before getting mine, I took into consideration the extra precautions I'd have to take, figuring that it would only be a mild inconvenience, but I was very wrong. This car, especially in southern california, is a pain to own. The hassles that come along with owning one are, in my opinion, almost not worth the car itself.
Don't misunderstand me though, the car is great, but worrying whether or not you're going to find your car where you parked it everyday becomes tiresome after a while.

Well said. I wish I had known how bad it was before I got the car.

if u want it, get it. plain and simple. when u get a car u shouldnt have to worry about getting it stolen. if it gets stolen, it gets stolen. thats why u have insurence.

Yea, it's easier to say that though when you haven't had to deal with an insurrance company and getting your car replaced, then being carless for two months.

i agree with SocalITR on that.
'97 auto Civic was attempted to be stolen but they thieves weren't sucessful. damaged the ignition. My Co-Wrxer was sad because it is such an inconvenience. Don't get an ITR. I'd rather drive something lower profile than that. You're just asking for trouble.

i wouldnt do it either.........alarms do not protect your car from theft. If i were you i would wait one year until you get into your gated community buy the car and an alarm and have fun...i know it will be hard, but until then be careful
Yeah Lee... don't do it. I was pissed when some *** stole my front badge...I can only imagine how pissed I'd be if my whole car was stolen! If you're going to own a car at school in SoCal, buy a sleeper to work on. Wait til you move to buy an R, where it can be garaged with love.
