Default ZC Swap.........

DOHC ZC into 89' Civic STD
A few questions to start:
Do i have to get a 4g SI ECU / 88-89 Integra ECU or can i use the ECU that comes with the ZC? i will get the 88-89 ECU anyways but ..will the ZC work for now?

Also ..Can i use the ZC's trans or will i have to get a DX/SI trans??
will the STD 4speed work??

I know i can use a SI wiring harness and if i use a DX harness there is minor mods to be done ...can i use the STD harness with minor mods?? Im assuming that the ZC's harness will come RHD so it will be useless...correct?

Anybody with pics of thier swap ..please post.
Anything im leaving out??
Tips and Advice on this swap??
Thanks .

You can use either the 4g Si ECU(PM6), the 88-89 Integra ECU(PG7), or the ZC ECU(PM7). The ZC ecu would be best, then teg, then Si.

You can use the ZC trans or the DX/Si trans. The ZC or Si would be best. The 4speed STD will work also.

You can use the DX harness but you'd have to do the mpfi swap. Your ZC wiring harness will be cut up most likely.

You dont need a ZC hood, you can cut out the insulation under the hood and you can put washers on the mounts to allow the engine to sit lower.

The ZC ECU works best, if you use the ZC tranny you'll have to get the intermediate shaft and use 90-93 teg axles. If you use a dx or Si tranny you can use your stock axles. You'll need to convert to mpfi. Everything else should be cool, shift linkage/mounts etc. Some people have trouble with hood clearance but some dont so...

Thanks guys.....
I will be getting the ZC trans and the ZC ECU
so the best thing to do would be get the 90-93 intermediate shaft and axles from a teg??
is it easy to convert to MPFI??
ill have the STD wiring harness and the ZC wiring harness
do you think i should convert or just find a 4g SI harness?
thanks again for your help.

To convert from dpfi 2 mpfi you have to convert ur harness and make a subharness-I have all the schematics for the swap but my scanners broke but I can give u a little help. After the harness and subharness r made you need to wire up the cylinder sensor and fuel injection since ur switching 4rom 2-4 injectors. You have to relocate the 2 existing wires at the ecu in the pass foot well-move-pin c1-b10 and the wire that feeds c2-b12-these r 4the crank angle sensor-on a ZC the sensor is on th pass end of the exh. cam instead of inside the distributor. One wire is blu w/green stripe & the other blue w/yellow....follow the wire colors. Dont use a single wire, add a connector in the firewall for ease of removal...just in case. Connect blu w/gr to the c1 pin on ecu- blu w/yel to the c2 pin-Now swap the two outside wires at the TPS-if u dont the ecu will think its at WOT. Now the injector wiring is the hard part-You have to use a resistor box 4 this part-it can b out of 85-87 crx SI,86-91integ,89-91 SI civic or 88-91 hf/si crx-mount this on the drivers shock tower but 1st supply power to the RBC.(resis. box connector) Take the larger yellow wire w/black stripe from the existing connector in the engine harness...this is the wire that provides power to the main injec on the dpfi. Run a brown wire from RBS to injec 1-it will replace the uellow wire that was the secondary injec. wire...run a light blue wire from the connector to the no.3 injec. replacing the red wire.- Run a red wire from the no.2 injec to the a3 pin on the ecu...also a yellow wire from no.4 to a7 on the ecu....completely pull the 2 existing wires at those locations......they arent need NEmore.Terminate the ends w/heat shrinkin tube or something along those lines. Finally wire up the four power feeds from the RBC to the injectors-Done.....LMK if i missed nething besides the harness.....Ill try n get u that....

If you pay 750 then youre getting the shaft...nipponmotors way cheaper and they are known for good running ZC's. And yes the roads of staten are hell, never take my car up there again this low.(Hylan Blvd)

Aight, for the axles you will need the ZC Intermediate shaft with 90-93 teg axles, so make sure you get the ZC inter, not the teg. Without it youll have to use a usdm tranny and your stock axles. For me my swap cost 770 shipped to my door, motor/ecu then another 175 for timing belt, water pump, plugs/wires, and cap and rotor. Other small stuff, oil, filter, coolant, tranny fluid etc comes to about 1000. I reused my d16a6 tranny so I got to use my stock axles. Its a very simple swap, pretty much straght forward, jus swap the 2 white wires running to the distributor bc it spins backwards from the sohc. Also a great time to switch over all those shitty squeeze clamps to some nice screwdriver type ones.

I spent a small fortune on my swap, close to 2 grand, but that was engine, rebuilt tranny with new 1-2 and 3-4 forks, quaife LSD, airmass header, new gaskets, lightened flywheel, rps turbo clutch, ecu (PM6 which I chpped with the ZC code). The car is way faster than in DX trim, and it does a great job at the track now too. I'm suspecting mid to high 14's in the 1/4, it runs 10 flats in the 1/8th with 0 traction, but runs 72mph. It can and has run circles around V8 cars (mustangs, Z28's) at track events. Future plans include a blower.
