When to change timing belt?
I was looking in my service manual and I think it said to change it at 105K miles. Is that correct? I thought people generally change it at 60K or 80K or 90K...can't remember which one tho... what are u guys changing it at? My car's got about 75K and i just want to be ready to pay for the labor
Thanks!
Thanks!
I originally thought it was to be changed at 60K, until I talked to my local Acura dealer recently, and the service manager said that I shouldn't be due until 90K.

hey scooby,
if i were you, i'll put down that acura manual and go talk to a mechanic. those manuals tell you all kinda of bull crap, one example is changing your engines oil every 7500 miles or so, and it also tells you to change the oil filter every other oil change. if you were talk to a mechanic i bet they'll tell you to change your timming belt somewhere near every 60,000 miles. those belts may last that long, but the normal intervals to change any types of belts are around 60,000. dont listen to honda\acura, they only tell you that to keep the annual repair cost down so it looks good for the consumer. hope i was a help.

ChoisVTEC,
thanks for the response...u make a good point....i do remember those goofy oil change intervals and not to mention the oil filter intervals...
I think i'll just average out the recommended and live on the edge
maybe around 80 or 90K i'll change it (yeah i know i didn't really average it out
)

Yeah, the people that built the car have no idea when things should be replaced
The oil change interval given is absolutely fine, as is the belt change interval. Most guys change their oil ealier (including me) since the the cleaner the better, but when it comes to replacing a belt I see no reason to replace it earlier unless you see signs of wear.
PS--I have heard its a good idea to take care of the water pump at the same time since the labor cost will be reduced.

For example, it okay to use NON-honda coolant as long it don't contain silicates and phosphates but I am sure a lot of peeps here will disagree.
