also VTEC cams have either two or three profiles.
stock has three..
Small primary lobe
secondary lobe
VTEC lobe
After market cams sometimes use the stock setup but most have 2 profiles
primary and secondary lobes are the same size(lift and duration)

Still, since the cams are CNC machined, it isn't too hard to program the milling machine to leave enough extra metal
for the third lobe. Shouldn't be worth more than another $50.

you're forgetting about all the r&d that went into making vtec cams... good ones were not around for many years even with the motors in production...
