Can I use Azenis as Track tires?
I have a set of Azenis for autocrossing but I'm looking to take some lessons on high speed track driving. Should I use my Azenis or go with another brand of tire?
You'd be hard pressed to find a better combination of traction and price. I ran Azenis for autox and track all last year, and thought they were great. They'll withstand the kind of abuse from overdriving that would eat up a race tire. Good in the rain, too.

Hardly, in fact I find most people on the board just follow the crowd.
I wasn't just implying ITR owners, i was implying everyone at the track, which included other makes and models as well.
The Azenis are a grippy tire for the price. Certainly not the best, and they can get kind of "slick" at times, but for the money that's what I'd go with.

I noticed mine were definitely a little slick on Sunday morning before they warmed up, and later on Saturday and Sunday it seemed like they were overheating a bit. Other than that though, I love 'em, loads of grip, very predictable, and it seems like they let you know when you're reaching the limit (I have no experience with it, but I've heard R-compounds do not, they just let go when you get there). And for the rain, other than standing water, they stick very well.
On the race track....how would they compare to the Hankook Z2k?
If there are pretty similar...I would choose the Azenis.I have seen too much tire seperation on the Z2k.
So anyone has tried both and can compare them to me?

I've heard the Azenis tend to get greasy during lapping sessions. They're a fantastic autox tire, but they don't handle extended high temp running very well, is this true?

nah I saw plenty of cars rollin R-tires.
my 3100 lb pig melts them in 3 or 4 laps if I push them hard. I am considering trying the Kuhmo MX in hope of better high heat capability.

Yt's a byg wyrld out thyre, fryend. In the UKDM, cars come with tyres, whereas we USDM people are stuck using tires. They get all the good shyt over there.

Yes, they do start to loose some grip when they get A LOT of heat, but they actually like some heat. I was able to run 40 min sessions @ Sebring full and they were awesome. Amazing tire for the $$

I just think that people tend to hold ITR owner's opinions as gospel just because they drive an ITR, making them somehow knowledgable in the field.
Azenis =
Can't beat it for the price.

I hear some of them even get aluminium wheels! All we get here is aluminum...

CivicSiRacer,
What do you use for pressures on the track? I have the same tire setup as you and I am looking for a good setup. Thanks!

I ran (if I remember right) 39f/39r. Since they were only two weeks old and I actually drove down to VIR (300 miles one way). Has the shocks set to 1 turn front and 1.5 turns rear.

aw shucks George! Thanks for the compliment, You are making me blush!
I must say though, ITR Expo was quite a humbling experience. I expected to be able to keep up with all but the most race prepped Rs. But a lot of you guys are fast!
now what I really need to do is find a Prelude VTEC or GSR so I can stop tracking my daily driver! (and start building a racecar
)
