Default omg, a STOCK DX with 8lbs of boost running 14.3

holy crap, I went to a local car meet, and there was a dude with a red dx hatch, full interior totally stock, except some cut springs and some altezzas's, and he was running low fourteens on a regular basis, he had a turbo kit, i'm thinking a greddy at 8lbs non-intercooled, and he was running low fourteens, I can't believe anybody would ever turbo that d15, but he did and i can't believe it. Well i just wanted to see what you guys would think about it.

I assume it's a EG DX then? If so even at 8lbs those 1.5 rods are asking for a quick exit of the block

How so?

8 psi is only ~80HP.

The 1.5 Rods are the same as every other D series motor. They can handle 10-12psi if managed properly.

Altezzas = 25 HP
Cut Springs = 15 HP
Turbo @ 8 PSI = 50 HP
Total = 90 HP

Actually 14.3 may be a little slow for a D15 with those mods.

I was under the impression that d15b7 rods were much thinner than Z6 rods.

The rods in the d15 are not the same as the d16

ok, well either way the engine has like over 100k on it, so you guys think this thing is gonna blow soon? It's funny tho, even if he does blow it, he can probably get the same exact engine for free because it's such a pos, how many miles you think one of these engines can take with that much power on it.

Is this correct? I have torn apart an 88HF and DX engine and the rods looked identical to the a6 rods. And, we all know the A6 and Z6 have the same rods. The only difference that Im aware of as far as block differences, is the stroke on the crank.

Engine Stroke, Rod, Rod Length Ratio

D16A1,A6,Z6,Y5,Y7,Y8 90mm 137mm 1.52

D15B1,B2,B8,B7 84.5mm 134mm 1.59

D15Z1 84.5 137mm 1.62

chart courtesy of AEM

88-95 DX/LX/CX all use a PM3 rod (134mm)

88-00 D16 motors use the same length rods, PM6 (137mm). The D16Z6 uses a PG6 rod and the D16Y5 (HX) uses a PE1, but they both supersede to PM6 rods. The only two rods that do not supersede from a PM6 is the P2P (D16Y8) and the PDN (GX motor).

The VX rod is comparable to a 1.6L rod in length. The number for the VX rod is P07.

what's so special about 14.3??? Sounds about right to me, if not a little slow.

I know a kid with a D16A6 in his EF, custom turbo kit running 10 psi, put down 178 whp, and kept up with my friends 240 with a SR20DET swap(he beat my friends 94 TT Supra last night!)...don't under estimate single cams....most of you are so ignorant
