do you smell oil? take the intake boot out of your turbo and look inside to see if you can see oil.

That oil is leaking past the turbo seals.

Man you're having the same exact problem I have. Mine started like that about 1 1/2 week ago. Same exact problem too. I did a compression check yesterday. I came up with 170 all across the board. Sorry for hijacking your thread but it sounds like me and you have the same problem. I'm starting to hate turbo.

I just hope its my turbo.... I'd rather have a messed up turbo then a motor.

i had the same problem with my gs-r turbo. at the stop light, it was smoking like crazy. the smoke was whitesh and grayish. turns out that i had fried my piston rings. thats sucks. but its alright. that's my excuse for going b20 vtec with turbo.

hey, no problem for *hijacking* haha...

i hopefully will be the same situation with you.... compression tests are good.. this is the only thing i want for now...

i wish i have the money to build something else...

IF IFIFIFIFIF my piston rings are fried, can i just change the rings? and how much would that be??

and if it's my turbo seal, how much would that be??

thanks

where is it smoking from? if the smoke is coming out of the breather from the valve cover, it's definitely the rings...

if it's coming out of your exhaust, then it can be a bunch of things... valve seals, headgasket, turbo seals...

</TD></TR></TABLE> If its the rings you should bore and hone the motor. If its that, you can just do the rings if you're broke like me. I wouldn't know how much but I would just do a full rebuild on the bottom end and might as well do forged internals. If you strapped for cash like me, throw a b20 in there.

What did you do to your PVC system? If it's clogged, you have boosted blowby shoving oil around your rings.

Pop the vent tube off the valvecover and run it for two minutes, your problem should go away then.

If its clogged, just replace it. PVC is dirt cheap at home depo.

I wouldn't drive that thing if I were you. If it's a broken ring or melted pistons, you can cause additional damage to your cyclinders walls. Like another member said, it could be your headgasket. Are you idling like crap? Is there a burning, sweet smell from your engine? Update us when you can.

Not driving the car until you know what is up has much to recommend it, like GTurbo00 says.

PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation system. I vent mine to the atmosphere, some people rig up fancy catch cans with check valves to eliminate pressure. I typo'd it up above.

Uberteg = tard

Any questions?

I really wish i have a second car to drive.. and i have exams these 2 weeks, there is no way i have time to fix it...

damn !!!
i am so mad !!!

i will first do a compression test to see what's up, then take off that tube off the value cover and run it for 2 mins, and see how's the smoke goes...

also, my vacuum is so low in my boost gauge, i checked all the connections, it's all good... so can it be bad rings that caused this??

thanks

Ok guys, i finally went ahead and check my compressions
they are all around 170 !!! nice ! hahah...

i am so calm now !

I tried to take off that hose from the value cover, didn't help...

Here is something I noticed:
When i first start my car, no smoke at all.. just a VERY little... then after i drive it around, for around 5 mins, alot of white smoke comes out from my exhaust when I stop at lights, or when my turbo timer is counting down... I checked my engine bay, no smoke at all, it'a ALL from the exhaust...

I didn't take off the intake pipe going into the turbo, but i took off the filter, I saw oil inside the pipe.... but I have seen this before the smoke comes out... what does this mean??

So finally... I THINK:
My turbo has some problems, I don't know what..
First: my turbo is not boosting, I don't feel boost at all.. no boost reading in boost gauge
Second: My boost gauge is reading around 11 vacuum, I THINK it's because my turbo internal wastegate is tapping into the FPR vaccum source, which is the same as my boost gauge, so the vaccuum is affected by it..
Third: There is a strange sound, like a rattling sound everytime when I pass through around 2000 RPM, sometimes 3000 RPM....

So from all the facts, I THINK my turbo is dead.... or some problems with it...

What I am going to do is: hopefully be able to grab a stock header from the junkyards, and take off my turbo.. and the painful oil feed line !!!

Then just run my car as N/A, and see if there is any problems...

Then I can look at the turbo and see there is any problem with it...

So IF my turbo is bad, should i fix it?? or get another one that fits the flange??

Thanks all !!

Please tell me if I am thinking it right.. or if something doesn't make sense.. thanks !
