yes, the overseas japan version had the automatic top as an option. You can purchase the kit from asylumms.com if you're willing to shell out 1200 bux just for parts (not to mention a pain in the *** to install plus all the extra weight)

i use to have a video of a guy using his transtops.
it was slow, it took about a min to finish, their's an annoying beeping in the process.

I haven't heard of anyone doing a successful motorized trans-top swap in the US

I saw one at an Import Showoff. It was a US spec Del Sol with the conversion. Kinda cool, but from the looks of it, there's quite a bit of weight that comes with it.

If I remember correctly, it's something insane like 300lbs.

I've heard the same thing. That's a lot to add to an already hefty weight (for such a small car)

Well the kit can be bought, but you're looking at replacing a large portion of the rear part of the car. The transtop is only worth getting if you get the real Sol. It is a whole lot more convenient and doesn't look as funny as trying to get the roof off yourself and throwing it in the trunk. BTW the work for the install is in most times more expensive than the parts.

That one red transtop is the one I was going to buy from my sponsor. The transtop on that was not operational at the time and I was asked to fix it if I kept it, but they sold it to another costumer for a lot more. That's probably why the pic shows the roof stuffed into the compartment. There are retractable arms that actually grab the roof and this can also be done in the trunk key hole.
