Can't remove crank pully bolt on crankshaft to change my timing belt.
This afternoon I tried to clean up the entire area wehere the timing belt is from when it got shredded. i put the car in 5th gear, had my little brother step on the brakes and then with a torque wrench set to 150 ft./lbs I couldnt remove the crank pully bolt. i would be turning the thing and the wheels would just rotate.
How could I get it off w/o using air tools? by the way the timing belt is already off since I cut it out with a scissor.
help!

Do you have a pulley holder thing (don't know the exact name)? They are inexpensive and help if you don't have air tools. Otherwise try sourcing an electric impact.
Its nearly impossible to do the job without some sort of impact or pulley holder thingy.

Unless you have a real powerful air impact gun, you won't be able to get it off. Don't even bother with the electric impact wrench, it's not powerful enough. I've tried it before.
Best bet is the moroso bar, jackstands, 10 inch 1/2" extension, 3 foot breaker bar and a nice galvanized 3 or 4 foot pipe to get some leverage. It also helps if you are heavy and not as skinny as me.

Just FYI, don't use your torque wrench to remove bolts. Go get a breaker bar.

never ever ever use a torque wrench to loosen bolts. Breaker bar or impact wrench. Also when working on my friend's car, putting a screwdriver (or two) in the flywheel was much easier than trying to put it in gear and stand on the brakes.

That sounds like a clever idea....I should try that.
By the way, where do I go about putting in the screwdriver into the flywheel?
