You're going to get all kinds of opinions about which are the "best" tires for the street but most of them have more to do with brand loyalty and image than performance. Truthfully, the only situations that anyone is ever going to encounter on public roads likely to actually challenge the performance of a tire are (a) standing water or (b) road hazards. 17" tires are not very well equipped for (b) but there are LOTS of great tires out there that provide adequate water displacement to handle the odd downpour. In terms of dry traction, the stock Firestones on my Civic are perfectly adequate for anything that is legal.

You are also asking in the wrong place but I am bored, between panic moments this afternoon.

A few things that need to be looked at first:

What car?
What kind of tires are you looking for?(all season, summer, competition, etc.)
What's the budget?

If you can tolerate the noise, one of the best street tires (of all prices) are the Falken Azenis. And they are pretty cheap, too. No brand loyalty here as I haven't even heard of Falken tires before hearing about the Azenis.

Why do people always ask questions for opinions without giving all the information needed to have answers given to them?? "What's the best tire for my car?" WTF is that all about!!
