OT: Drove the EVO VIII...It's f*cking wicked!
Drove my friends white '03 EVO last night, all I can say is hardcore! More so than a Type R! Super stiff, tons of grip, Ferrari brakes, excellent rubber, mid 13 second zip BONE STOCK , and 157 mph top speed. The bar has been raised, whether we like it or not!
EVO VIII at MSRP is the best automotive performance value under the sun
On a sad note, this was also while I just found out my good friend Charlie Polanco died wednsday night of an asthma attack. RIP Charlie
WE love you man!
Charlie owned a 400whp Turbo PY GSR tuned by Sartis.

I went to see these things in person at the Mitsubishi dealer and I must say, I am very impressed of all the goodies that the EVO 8 has for about $30,000. (at our dealership $30,500.) The Recaros are sooooo nice. Hid's are 4 way adjustable. Friggin Huge breaks. Too much awesome stuff to mention.
I would love to drive one!
Only downsides are the stock Rice altezzas, which can easily be changed to EVO7 tails I believe. Also sucks that the U.S. EVO didn't get the Active YAW control
Sorry about the loss of your friend however
.
Peace,
Larkin

They're nice cars, save for the altezza's, however, the STi is going to slaughter it upon it's arrival, if you want an EVO8, hold out a couple months, they'll be going for invoice.
hell yeah they are awesome. i took one out for a spin from the dealership.....my mouth was still open when i got home. they sales rep let me take it to 130, and it got there pretty quick. i also broke the tires loose around a lill turn and drifted it a lill. that was actually pretty fun. all in all i think it is a great car. i want to test the STi when it comes out tho.

My friends EVO is awesome. Not one thing I dont like about it, other than the altezzas and turbo lag. THe STi is only rated at 30 more HP than the EVO. I dont think it will be a slaughter, but it should be slightly quicker. You are also most likely gonna pay more for the STi, and get less with exception to the motor. But as is the case with most b00sted cars, its easy to make them faster so we shall see. It should be very interesting. Its nice to see the "scene" heating up with these AWD b00sted cars. just my 2 cents.

They are nice. I wanted to test drive one, but it was wet out and they wouldnt let me.
Too bad my dealer wants MSRP + 6,500 for adjusted market value.

How do you figure? The STi's interior is much nicer, besides the fact that it doesn't come with Recaro branded seats, 6 speed tranny, driver controlled center differential, side impact airbags and how can we forget the 2 front and rear LSD's.

I believe the seats in the STi are still recaros, no badge on them however. And also, the STi is getting a 2.5l motor which should hide all signs of turbo lag. Also the DCCD, Limited slips, 6 speed, etc. Looks like the STi will be a much better all around car.
Downside to the STi? The RADIO is an option, yeah, the radio.

I love how WRX owners are the only ones that have sour grapes for the EVO. I work for a Subie dealer and really appreciate the WRX, but the STI is not a fair comparison. The STI will sticker around $34K + dealer markup, and a loaded WRX stickers at $27,791. Roughly $1000 less than a EVO sticker. And I have news for you, in non-saturated markets an EVO can be had for MSRP as we speak.
If Mitsu brings over the ralliart EVO in '04 then we shall see who does the slaughtering.

Is that my Evo you are talking about Yoshi? At the Expo?
I'll be in the Int1 group. But I won't stick out too much...I should still be able to blend in with all the yellow.
And for the people who think the Sti will slaughter the Evo....don't be so sure. The preliminary opinions of those who have driven the Sti are saying that while the Sti is a little bit faster in a line, the Evo still is the better handler. They will both rock. But the advantage of one over the other won't be as clear cut.
Cheese~ who bought his for UNDER MSRP

i'm not "sourgrapes" about the evo. while slaughter may not have been the best word, the STi will be quicker out of the box.
I JUST bought the WRX. And while every loaded WRX stickers at 27, i got mine for 22800 out the door with taxes, title, tags, etc. So there goes that argument
As for the evo, I have no doubt that the car performs well. I'm just not a fan of the interior(or the exterior to be honest). The seats and all are great, but the dash just looks like it's made by fisher price. It's a very hard, very cheap looking plastic.

also, while the STi may sticker for 34, it could be as low as 32 according to some magazines. My dealer has assured me they will not be marking them over MSRP as the dealership owner will not allow it.
I guess it just comes down to personal opinion.

I love the EVO, it is an excellent machine and a great value. What I am saying is when you take all aspects into account here you can see that the STi is an overall better car. I would like to know how you came up with a 34K price tag? There is no official price on the vehicle so I wouldnt start spreading any rumors just yet. Subaru will have to price the STi at around $31k -$32k if they know whats good for them and I am sure they do....they took a huge risk by bringing the WRX to the US and look what that has brought them. They have opened a whole new door to the japanese market and as a result we know have the EVO.
As for markup on the EVO, it is complete and total bullshit, the first weekend it came out I had an opportunity to pick one up for $200 under MSRP(I'm pretty sure this will be the case for the STi too). Of course, I decided not to buy and instead see what the STi has to offer before making a decision.

Don't believe the hype! The original WRX was supposed to slaughter the type R based on the numbers. Having owned both, I can tell you that is NOT the case. The WRX handles, brakes, and shifts like ****. The turbo lag is annoying, and the interior is only so-so. If the numbers told the whole story, we'd all be driving Camaros! The devil is in the details and the fine tuning of the EVO and the STi will ultimately determine if they are worthy. Given Subaru's track record with the current WRX, I am not inclined to believe that the STi will slaughter the EVO.

I went for a test drive in an evo the other day. That thing was redicilious. 273 dt/lbs of torque pushes you back in the seat at every shift half throttle. I'm worried about how the dealers are driving those things though. We we're going 100, he was shifting at redline and throwing it into bends at 70. I can forsee some premature engine wear, and bad ring seating. Anyway, there's not a car out there STOCK right now in the same price range as msrp that can touch this car. Crap, the back seats were more comfy than any suv I've driven in.
I dunno... I'm also in the market for one of these. I'll probably wait until the STi gets here before making a decision, but bottom line, regardless of which is "better", is that, for me, I'm just glad these are BOTH finally here and available.
Gee... you think maybe we'll eventually see USDM Skylines ?

Never said it would slaughter it, I said it would be an overall better car....nicer interior, more power, subbaru reliability and of course exterior styling which is a personal preference.

The reason you got a WRX for $22.8K is because your dealer was mor than happy to unload a "leftover" with an outdated front end which represents loss for them every single day it's on their lot. Trust me, we're givin away '03's right now since '04 WRX's have already arrived. Try getting a loaded '04 for the same price. So their actually is an argument there

I know this. I prefer the bug eyed front end, and took complete advantage of the deal. The 04's are in fact going for invoice as well though. One of the guys on impreza.net just got his for invoice from a dealer in maryland.

Granted, mine was a little below invoice, People still aren't paying anywhere near sticker for them. The 2.9% for 60 months and 2 years of maintenance for free didn't hurt either.
