1991 Honda Accord - very high miles
I just happened to stumble upon a 1991 Accord for sale but it had high miles. I havent driven it or anything, but I just wanted to know what everyone thought about a 91 accord with 256,000 miles on it? It is an automatic. Are there any major issues that I should look out for with that car? Also, what does everyone think that it would sell for where you are from? The body is in decent condition... nothing major wrong with the body.
mines a 92 with 189,000 miles on it... still in good condition
... thanx to good care
my advice would be to change the tranny fluid, oil, timing belt, water pump and all the seals if the previous owner didnt do it recently before selling the car to you. You might want to replace the front and rear motor mounts as well... it will prevent the car from vibrating so much... i still gotta do that... hope this helps

If it's been well taken care of and not abused, then 250k isn't a hell of a lot for a Honda. Since it's an auto, the tranny is what I would worry about the most. If the fluid has been changed regularly though, then it should be fine (my friends 87 Accord has 275k on the original auto tranny, simply because the fluid has been changed every 10-20k since new, and it still shifts beautifully). Check the tranny fluid and see if it's a nice red/pinkish color (good) or dark and burnt looking (BAD!). Be sure and find out when the timing/balancer belts and water pump were changed, and if they don't know then definitely change those (about $400 or so to have a shop do it, MUCH less if you do it yourself). Other than that just use your own judgement on what you see. Check the obvious stuff like leaks, clicks, clunks, rattles, bangs, smoke, etc, and if something doesn't seem right then it probably isn't. Also should check the suspension for play by jacking up each tire and trying to 'shake' the tire. If there's play when you move it left and right, then tierods are bad; if it's top and bottom then upper and/or lower balljoints are bad.
I'd say if it looks good and seems solid, go for it! I got mine with 253k and about $4000 front end damage, and 2.5 years later it's still kickin' like a bat outta hell! So I don't think you would have to worry about it dying anytime soon, heh
