I sold my R earlier this week to a 20ish year old kid. On his trip home he mis-shifted and blew the motor.. Now he's pissed because Acura won't warranty the new shortblock for him.. Makes me want to cry..

You kidding me?!?!?! Blew it up on the way home? What a shame, and he got that car for a steal IMO with only 12k on it.

He obviously had no idea what he was doing with the gearbox since Integras are amazingly easy and precise in their shifts... why be driving it hard when you just picked the thing up?

I know how you feel sort of. I had an immaculate 86 Prelude Si many moons ago and the outside paint was faded but the interior was perfect. Long story short, sold to a guy and ran into him two days later and he opened the car door up and I glanced inside and there was at least 3 inchs of mud in the floor boards and mud all over the doors and seats. Not as bad as a blown up motor but when you put so much time into something and then someone buys it and lets it go to crap, it hurts!!

 

Sometime it's better not to know what happens to the car once you sell it. dumb *** kids

The G35 is a nice upgrade though

 

It has nothing to do with "kids" Im 20 and i had my itr since i was 19. I also owned a GSR before that since 17. I never blew any motors.

It just shows that a single dumbass blew it becuase he had a brand new ITR and blew the motor on the way home. You have to be basically redlining the motor to do that. I sure as hell would not red line a car with a 9k rpm redline when I first get it. I did not come near redline in my ITR for like a week after I had it. Keep in mind I had a GSR before that for over a year so it was pretty similar.

 

he didn't buy a new car don't forget. I still have a hard time believing how stupid this person can be by blowing up the engine like that. Tell me something, doesn't the car have fuel cutoff and on top of that, doesn't he realize when the engine starts to scream like someone ran over your ding dong with a 18-wheeler that he needs to press the clutch in?? How long of a mis-shift is required to blow up a engine like this??

BTW, nice G35 coupe with the track option. However, they are not much of a handler like the R and just slightly faster. Not to mention the premium you have to pay like you did with your 00 R..

Most people that blow R motors do it because they are redlining third and instead of going to fourth, they stunna shift it into second and pop. There is no rev limiter when down shifting, rev limit is active during acceleration in gear.
