air into the engine through the air dam
I took my front bumper off and it got me to thinking if i took an air hose 3 or 4 " in diameter and hooked it up to my grill craft in my air dam and ran the piping up into my engine bay. One in the engine bay if i capped it off with some sort of screening to prevent dirt and stuff to get in the engine bay. Would this help at all i meen keeping it cool and stuff, i autocross and as you know the engine runs a little hot. Anyways just a thought is it worth anything? any info is appreciated
thanks
thanks
I have such a contraption on my Integra. It's just four 3" diameter 90 degree PVC elbows, some screws to hold them together, and about a 3" diameter hose that's about a foot long (made out of duct tape). It takes air from the passenger side corner of the air dam and lets it out in the engine bay, just under my intake. This does cause a small part of the engine bay to get dirty when the roads are wet, but it's not a big deal and things are a bit cooler (especially the air going into the intake).
autocrossing, I doubt it would make much cooling improvement. Taking the grill craft off would make more of a difference. An autocross run of 1 minute shouldn't increase the temperature of a Honda that much since our cooling systems aren't that bad. Raise the hood as soon as the run is over and run the heater; that will have more of an effect at cooling the motor than 4" worth of tubing that gets air pushed into it for 1 minute before dumping it over the motor. Hope that helps!
