Yokohama A032Rs- Can they be used on the street?
I was looking on the Tire Rack site and the Yokohama A032Rs seem to be the only competition tire you could stretch to use on the street. Does anyone use them on the street? Are they too dangerous in the rain?
They should last the summer on the street (maybe longer depending on the amount of abuse, errr ... fun),
and any tire is dangerous in the wet when its bald (wear bars).

Do they need to be heat cycled first? I don't do any racing but I heard competition tires need to heat cycled for safety reasons. Does the Tire Rack have them the cheapest? I guess I'll need a 205/50-15 for factory wheels, right?

If you don't race at all, your money would be MUCH better spent on some high quality high performance summer tires instead of R rated tires. You really don't need that extra grip if you are just driving on the street, and you will save yourself a lot of money if you just get regular street tires. The R tires are going to wear out super fast and street driving will not allow you to get any of the benefits R tires offer.

it will be a blast going around corners, just watch for pedestrians and cops.
heat cycling is just supposed to make them last a little longer, and probably won't be an issue for a daily driver.

I live in hickville, tennessee, and there are no race tracks for about 150 miles. But since I do live in hickville, there are twisting country backroads that are a blast in a Type R. I want maximum performance and dry grip, noise does not bother me, and $600 every four months isn't too bad. And I love leaving mustangs, camaros, firebirds, corvettes eating my dust through corners...
I got about two summers out of my last set of 032Rs, and have a fresh set to put on once I get back to Ohio.
They also saved my but from t-boning some lady (because of the good grip/ABS).
By comparison my AVSi suck (though generally they're pretty good tires).
have fun, ed!

What tires do you recommend (for street use) other than RE010s in factory sizes? I wonder if they have Potenza S-03 Pole Positions or Pirelli P-Zeros close to my size. I guess I'll check out the Tire Rack again.
I will be using the A032R's on the stockers Until I get My Advan A048R in for my Spoons
Other tires that are pretty good in a more street type application Dunlop Sp9000 or maybe the S03's

I'm currently running A032R on my daily driven R and I absolutely love them. I go to the track about once a month. I run 35 front and 32 back cold tire pressure on the street so that the middle part gets most of the wear and save the sides for the track. On the track, I run 32 front and 29 back hot tire pressure. My point is if tire wear and noise are not much of a concern, then A032R is definitely the tires to go with.
I'm glad you mentioned "the middle part" ... thought I was just seeing/imagining things!!
Too bad we've only got 6" wide wheels as stockers!

zygspeed, i actually thinks that it looks pretty good with the slight buldge that our narrow rim gives. Basically, the higher the pressure you run, the less contact patch it has. Hence, there's less wear at the sides and more wear in the middle. But one track day would more than compensate for the "uneven wear"
I was just on the Tire Rack site and the Potenza S-03 Pole Positions seem to be the ultimate non-competition maximum performance tire available. Obviously the softer rubber and shallower tread depth of the A032Rs will provide higher ultimate grip, but the S-03 has a 220AA rating on treadwear while providing higher grip than the RE010. The A032Rs, once worn down even more from the 6/32" tread depth, would be kinda tricky in the rain. And where I live, we get precipitation often. That 1.0+ skidpad grip capability is quite alluring, though.
Yes. They are noisy though. Dont expect them to last too much longer than 3 months.
, I just need something that will last me a bit longer on the street.
you guys would probably die if you saw the tower of tires that I have in my little computer room... Ask Ben Tang about it!!
