STR Cam Gears?
Anyone have any experience with these? I'm debating on getting them but i have yet to find any documentation on what kind of performance gains they offer or even if they are a good product. Help?
I have those cam gears but have not yet put them on my car. Got'em from inline four, I do not have them in front of me now but I believe they have five bolts and seem to be pretty descent in construction, but I am no expert by far.
Check strpower.com

I checked the site but it doesn't have the type of information I'm looking for. I also read the press release and they seem to be made well, but I would like to find someone with some experience with them, or to at least find out how good STR products really are.
JD, your refering to the OLD gears that were made by a well known sleeving company.. All of STR's new products are made in house, and to this day i havent heard of any of the new "bronze" gears having problems..But thats just me

The gears are a new design and are set to very strict standards. They are not actually cut on a cnc machine like several competitors gears which happen to be done incorrectly(How are old gears 3 spoke, 3 bolt ones, were done in the past). We now actually use the correct cutting tooth which is set up by the RMA(they make the timing belts). and done on a true gear cutting machine.
If you actually look on Inline four's website it talks about how Spoon came down and were checking out the other gears and quoted how if their gear was unavaiable they would run the STR gears due to it's construction.
I was pretty happy with that quote.
We have done alot of redesigning of the entire product line here and are really happy with the results.
All the products have been tested while we were out of commision for some time. Please feel free to give us a call if you have any questions. 909.272.2150

...now the STR throttlebody on the other hand.... caused me nothing but problems

Hey(since you have these installed already) what are the torque specs for the adjustment bolts, also, how many degrees is each white hash mark? I have these in my hand right now and I am having difficulties figuring out how these line up( in regards to how to line up the inner etching mark and the outer white hash marks?) Any help would be appreciated

The idea is to line up the inner marks with the outer ring. For example: if you want a 2 degree retard/advance on your cam, you count the mark on the inner ring (to the second mark) then you count the outer ring (to the second mark) line up the 2 marks.
**Each mark when lined up is 2 degrees crank.
I have the torque specs at home. If no-one post them, I will post them later.

nah, I already got rid of it. I mean, the STR tb looked great, and im sure it would perform well for the right application, but it just wasnt the right TB for my setup. But I definately think STR has some GREAT quality parts...

My friend has the STR cam gears, been in for a week and is gonna go back to his old AEM gears. He has a B16. Im gonna take advantage and buy them off his dumb ***
Dirt cheap. I have a 96 GSR, they should fit the B18 as well right? I know everythign is pretty much compatible with b series engines.

I called up Scott @ STR, he was able to point me to a shop in FL that had them since the CDN distributor was sold out..I placed my order and 24hrs later I had a set of the Pro Gears at my house. Great product and great fast service.
Thanks again to Scott & Darrin/Steve from Pacific Performance.
