Spoon or Toda header? and why?
Other than the obvious differences of ground clearance....can you guys tell me what are the main differences in the power gains of the JDM SPOON 4-2-1 header versus the JDM TODA Header? I've seen the Great Header Test but I couldn't get anything out of those dynos as I wish I could lay the spoon dyno on top of the toda to compare...but I don't know how...so does anyone here know or have firsthand experience between the two for a stock usdm b18c5 with comptech icebox and mugen twin loop. I'm lookin to purchase one next week..so I've narrowed it down between those two as my budget limits me to get a Hytech and I can't wait 3-4 months for SMSP...
Any details or info would be great...thanks...

spoon hangs lower. if u dent it..yer fawked.
you'd probably bottom out and hit the oil pan before the toda header..
ask rockwilda and ARunto about their toda header experiences.

Any dyno of yours or of anyone else to support this? Very interested....when you say the power is "way better" than spoon....

IMO The TODA is crafted better, ground clearance is better, flows slighty better
For the $100 - $150 increased price (over Spoon) it would be my top choice for an off the shelf header.

Everyone is saying more power and "flows slightly better"..but how is everyone saying this...is there any dyno or real world experience to back these comments up? I seriously would like to learn why one is better than the other....

the closest thing i've come across on this board are a number of guys with the
IB modded (2.5 collector)JG/edelbrock header vs. their JDM DC header or JDM
type r header. they gained HP and torque all across the board..esp midrange
and top end over their jdm dc/type r header
the JG/edelbrock IB modded header IMO is the closest thing to the toda as youre
gonna get...except the toda has slightly larger primaries/secondaries so of course
it flows better. the spoon header is designed just like the JDM type r header or
JDM DC header, 4-1.
other than that, there is of course the ground clearance issue, where toda ownz.
rockwilda had a thread on this awhile back..how his toda faired against his old
spoon header. i don't think he had actual dyno proof...but there's nothing like
the ol' fashioned butt dyno.

I have both, Started off with the Spoon but The Toda has been on my car for a year now. You guess which one has better gains
TODA

you can over lap the dynos. open 2 windows the same size minizied and place them over each other. then in the start menu click on the to boxes left to right really fast and you can see them over lap.
thats what i did when i bought my spoon header. the spoon header had at least 1 to 2 hp over any other hearder there. the toda cam in second.
as long as your type r is not lowered you will not hit if you avoid speed bumps and take them at a slow angel. i have never scraped the header.
heck my resonater on my kakimoto R exhaust hangs much lower then the header and that has yet to touch the ground. it comes really close sometimes

I chose the Spoon because it had the most area under the power curve during the header test. It also incorporates sequential pairing like the SMSP and Hytech headers. I think the quality between the Spoon and Toda are identical and it really comes down to tuning no matter which of these headers your pick.

Why not? There's a Spoon header already on your car.

... me too.
I have the Spoon, my best buddy has the Toda. I don't think he's any faster than me.
I've never had any clearance issues and thats with H&R sports and living in a city with lots o' speed bumps.
Maybe its none of my business, but you already have the Spoon header, why the need to change? Just looking to drop some extra cash thats lying around? If so, keep the Spoon, send cash to me...

Clearance is definitely a slight concern for me. Just gotta be careful. But if you have the extra cash and plan on doing heavy mods in the future, the Toda may be better
