New tires (woohoo!)... recommendations?
The topic's like it sounds. I'm looking for a good all-around tire. Treadwear life IS important... I can't afford to change 'em every year, but I don't want taxi tires either. Anyone have some good all-around tires they can recommend? These are on stock rims.
TIA...
TIA...
I'm pretty happy with my X ones (around 620 on the treadwear index). They ride pretty good and the handling isn't all that bad considering these are all seasons. How much are you looking to spend? Are you gonna see much winter weather or is this strictly a spring/summer car?

i had a set of A520's on my 14" Si wheels, 185/60/14's of course
they handled pretty nicely for a 14 inch tire, not all that cheap tho, around 113 per tire.. treadwear was 200, H rated.
they seemed to hold up pretty nicely, sold them to a friend and he's still running them a year later with surprisingly little wear for their age
HTH!

I have been happy with the Dunlop SP8000 195/55/14. I am on my second set. They wear well, great grip dry, good wet, not great if you get lots of snow though. I am in MD, so we only get a couple storms a year normally of any notable accumilation, so I don't worry about it. They are priced right for the performance as well.

spdster: Are those Brand X tires, or are X tires a specific type? I'm looking for all-season tires, though I don't see much snow (and don't really care either way - snow is light where I live).
Crosser: The Dunlops you mentioned... the sizing you mentioned fits on the stock rims? Sounds like a pretty good combo if it does.
So sounds like a tie between the Dunlop A520s and the SP8000s...

raeneshadow- Actually they are Michelin X ones.
I'm pretty happy with them in terms of an all season tires. (mainly fall/winter here in T.O.) In the summer I use a different setup, Kuhmo ECSTA Supra 712’s 320 UTQG on Rota sub zero 16's. A friend of mine with a CRX (ZC swap) has 16's wrapped in Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP's treadwear rating at 340 UTQG and he swears by them.

I have Michelin Rainforce MX-4s on my Civic (stock wheels) and I have been pretty impressed with them. They have about 40k miles on them (with one trip to the track) now and wet traction is still excellent with about 65% tread worn. Sorry, don't remember the treadwear number for sure but I think it is 485 (if someone knows please feel free to correct me). Cost was ~$85 each 2 years ago.
The rolling resistance of these tires is much lower than the crappy Dunlop SP4s I have on the back. No power steering and it was MUCH harder to turn the wheel with the Dunlops while stopped. I can't rotate these to the back to encourage even tire wear cuz I hate the Dunlops so much. They were supposed to be good all around tires also, and I have gotten good mileage on them (50k) but 40k of that on that back...I got tired of the steering wheel workout trying to drive at low speeds.
I am looking for some new tires also..and although I don't think I need a rain tire specifically, these were the only MX-4 Michelins available at the time and I needed them quickly, and the price was reasonable. My next set may be a slight step up in performance, but I like the mileage I have gotten out of these and I take the turns pretty hard..as a general use tire I have been very pleased. I run mine with 36 PSI to keep the shoulders from wearing too quickly due to my desire to always corner hard
Let us know what you decide.

Well so far I've been able to find the following:
Dunlop SP8000 Extremes are priced at $210 PER TIRE... leaving me with $978 for all four, mounted and balanced. I think I'll pass.
Yokohama A520s are priced at $112 per tire, leaving me with about a $550 charge total.
Michelin X's are apparently 'the devil' up here in Canada because no one I've spoken to has carried them, and they always look at me funny when I ask. I haven't checked on the MX-4s, though. I might do that later.
Or... I could get cheaper Dunlop D60 A2s *and* get a camber kit to fix my bad camber... it would be nice to get my wheels aligned
What do you guys think? I don't drive THAT hard so getting an ultra-high performance tire is probably not cost-effective for me.

My friend just slapped some Bridgestone Potenza RE910's on his ' 90 Celica Turbo. He says they are pretty good for all seasons.
you won't get good mileage out of them, trust me i had them!
