painting exhaust?
i just finished painting my exhaust with high temp black. my question is should i go over it with flat black or is that a bad idea, plus i dont think the flat black will withstand the heat?
ohh the reason for the painting is because i just want to be low key with the law

I'm doing the same thing with my worldsport but I'm leaving the tip alone. They sell high temp ceramic paint at wal-mart for like $3 which is supposed to withstand temps. up to 1500 degrees.
just leave it with the high temp black paint i had mine like that without any problems....your fine..
if you paint it with flat black, it might start chipping....

Keep it low key. COPS, Riceboys, theives, I've done the same thing. Although in a few years all the paint has chipped off.

I agree. I've never seen exhaust paint last on headers for more than a few months though... Or maybe small block chevys get hotter than Hondas?

I painted my Apexi WS with hi-temp flat black paint from Pep-boys. I first sanded it down with 220 grit sandpaper, applied 3 light coats of hi-temp primer, then 5 coats of hi-temp flat black. I left the tip polished.

If thats made by duplicolor, don't waste your time. I used that on a turbo manifold and the **** cooked right off. I'm talking like four days.

Oh okay.
I'd get a ticket in certain parts of ATL @ certain times regardless of what it looks like. They'll just say its too loud and write me up. They even look @ the exhaust. They just hear it and assume: "Oh its another little rice burner".

But did you cure it @ 500 degrees for an hour after painting. If you read the back of the can, that's how you get it to last! I don't know how I'm going to fit my exhaust in the oven but that's another post.

Im going to paint the mirror finsih muffler on my Apexi WS tonight. Everything but the tip. Hopefully it will last for a while.
Im getting off the trends and going back to almost stock. Only things you can tell will be exhaust tip, integra wheels, amber corners. Few more if you know what to look for.

Luckily here in Canada a company named Brullen who makes your exhaust system for you based on your car and mods paint it black for you when you buy it. I love it never get harrased by cops anymore and the quality of the exhaust is amazing not loud at all.

Do you have a pic?
Yea, agree with Starks, that Dupliacolor crap sucks. Comes right off. If it gets hot, bumped, scratched whatever.

Well, I was talking about the their regular paint not their speciality paint, so the high temp paint they have might actually be worth it and work good. I had a speciality paint by them that held up quite a bit, now that I think about it (metallic, I believe) but it had many coats and lots of clear.
All I know is right now, I have some of their gloss black regular paint with clear and it does last long at all. The metallic stuff I had lasted though and I was on parts that would heat up quite a bit.
