I drove my first lapping day in the R (vids inside!)
So today has been a long time coming. Could barely sleep last night I was so anxious!
This is my third lapping day at Pacific Raceways, and my first in the R. Overall it was great! Perfect weather, not crowded, and the car upheld all my expectations! I was on the track for total of about 2 hours, and the longest I was on at one time was about 50 min (was the last 50min of the day also).
My setup is:
revalved koni yellows
hawk blues
jdm 16's
potenza re-010's @32psi cold
stock motor
Here is a slight parts review:
The suspension was great. It held every line I tried, and even though there was definate understeer on the hairpins, slightly lifting the throttle brough the car wide, and was very controllable at the same time. Towards the end of the day, especially the last few laps I was out there, the tires were getting chitty. I ate them up pretty good, and even though they were predictable, I found they got unsettled in the rear around highspeed corners, which didn't raise my confidence a whole bunch. The brakes bit really good for the first two 25 min sessions I was out there, but after about 30 minutes the pedal was getting squishy, but still stopped great, so I will definately invest in some SS lines before the next lapping day because I think that is my weak link. I'm pleased with the Hawk Blues, and even with a lot of hard braking I only took off about 1/4 of the pad, which was less than I was expecting.
Now for some vids! The camera is tilted a bit, not much, but that was as straight as I could get it
Here is a vid of a single lap (5meg):

Here is a vid of me eventually passing my dad's supra (6.6meg):

I ran into a really nice guy named Walter. He drove a yellow S2k, completely stock. He was a great driver. I also met another H-T member there, BamBam, who is a really good driver and was very friendly to my questions. This is the only video I had on my camera that had his car in it (the black R), it is sorta breif (8.4meg):

And finally, during lunch I was talking to one of the instructors who just picked up his 350Z last month. He had been driving older Porsche's...specifically 911's, and he said he loves the 350Z (jDm oWnZ j00)...He had the "race" model (with brembos and large wheels...). He said he was going to take it out at the end of the day once most of the people leave...I got a first hand opportunity to follow a verteran. As a good confidence booster he told me he was surprised how well I stayed behind him (8.6meg).

A very good track to start from because not very difficult to drive (as far as I could see... a vid can confuse the eye)...
It seems to me the track is very fast also. What was the fastest point on the odo ?

That track looks like a lot of fun
I love the elevation changes and it has some cool technical turns to it. Nice vids too! Good post man!

Thx man! Really entertaining post with nice vids
I drove my ITR on track for the first time on Saturday. My first time on a track ever. I really satisfied with my cars performance, but I need alot more track-experience to justify the Integra type-R's reputation and on-track-performance. It was really nice anyways, and not as difficult as I assumed... good feedback and response from steering and chassis
Here are som pictures (if I get this right)

Yes. This black R helped me through the hard time while my own R got it`s engine shot... I drove her a few times to keep the feeling until I shipped her to Norway. You car has a strong engine.

Almost too strong I guess my big-brother think, hehe.. he got the Nissan 200SX next to my ITR in one of the pics... He has a 2liter turbocharged engine with about 250-270 hp, lots of tourqe and improved shocks/springs setup and he is only a little bit faster than me on the straights... and when I get the hang of how to use my R properly I'll beat him during cornering
(I hope..)
In one of theese two cars, or perhaps both we'll use when we visit the Nurburgring this summer... (hopefully the R
)
It is not yet final - but I think we will spend some time in the wonderful countryside of the Eifel-mountains sometime in the week 31-32 this summer... Will you be there at the ring then? I'd love to catch a ride with your beautiful R!

I`m sure you can outperform the Nissy...
Sunday two weeks ago I killed two Imprezas and two Deltas (Lancia) by 50seconds on the ring. Both are stronger but they had problems with the weight loads caused by all this ups and downs through the curves of the ring. Good balance and a proper setting of suspension and alignment is a must there...

The track is great for cars like ours. Top speed on the front straight is about 125-130, and average speed is probably close to 80. The course isn't really great for cars like supras and vipers, because their high weight and high power only helps them in about 1/4 of the whole track. The elevation changes make it so much more fun, the G's you feel on the rear straight are great. The track istelf isn't extremely hard to master, but the condition is below par IMO. The previous owner of the track let it deteriorate a lot.
As for the shifting, I need to smooth out my upshifts a lot more, and yes, heel-toe is next on the list when I go back, but yesterday I was more interested in learning the car, not improving my skills.
The current brake setup is Hawk blues and *i think* DOT 4 fluid...the previous owner had this setup on the car and left it on. After talking with BamBam at the track I think I will go with CoolBlue (DOT 5.1 I think) and SS lines before I hit the track May 6th.
EDIT: The black car that you see on the grass off to the left of the rear straight is a late 80's 911. He lost it in the first 20minutes of the day...he went all the way up into the trees and oil was shooting everywhere...so they just left it.

what's with the set of cones on the track at the first left after the main straight. i assume they are there to posistion you correctly for the turn but i have never seen cones in the middle of the track. seems a bit dangerous to me.
cool videos! i was wondering how often there are lapping days at Pacific Raceway or where i can find out about them? i wanna track the car a little bit and check it out. anyway, glad you had a good time!
Hey, it was nice meeting you 92TypeR. That was a good day. Towards the end, I had no tires, and thus no grip, typical for PR, it really eats your tires big time.
For brake fluid, definitely, go with ATE Super Blue or Motul. Either one should be fine.
For the bra, I'd try http://www.ahmotor.com/product/ahmcat7.htm#8D
As for tires, the Falken might be your best choice. If you ever decide to go down to 15 inch wheels, then I'd recommentd the Yokos. Yes they're very noisy, but very good grip and durable too.
Hope to see out there this summer. I am working on getting one of the May dates next.

Does the brake fluid make a big difference with pedal firmness and braking? What is the DOT mean as the number gets higher or lower?

Well, one of the things that causes mushiness of the brake pedal is when you boil your breaking fluid. Since the higher DOT fluids have a higher boiling point, it'll last longer. Of course, the mushiness may also be due to leaking master cylinder or something with the brake lines, that's why I hear people recommend stainless steel lines, which I have on my car. If you're tracking the car, a higher rated DOT fluid is a must.
