Default question/problem about installation of short shifter

I just installed a new short shifter...works fine and everything but I am having trouble with my shift **** (mugen c/f w/ metal) getting hot. I made sure that I put the rubber cover back on in the top portion of the shift assembly. Did I miss something else possibly underneath? A friend and I did the install and he said he put everything back, and I double checked up top too!

Any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance
Jason

Well, it didn't happen like that with my stock shifter and I had the same ****???

Big Phat R---hehehe yeah, maybe I should have...it is so hot I can barely keep my hand on it (the metal part around the top, I have to use the C/F portion as it doesn't retain the heat)

Short throw will sit 1/2" to 3/4" closer to the exhaust than the stock one. This makes the space between exhaust and shifter generally less than 1/2" so, sorry but you're gonna have to get used to it. (or bend the exhaust hangers so it sits lower!
