Default Want to build an NA B20 Vtec motor? any setup suggestions.

Any suggestions for this motor? Pistons (11.1-11.9 CR) , rods, any advice and so on. I'm going to top it off with an already built Toda B cam B16 head, ported by Portflow, and all the fixings.
any suggestions how to do the bottom end for a good reliable street/race motor?
also how high can i rev these things if balanced and blueprinted?
thanks in advance.
yes i did a search, not much in recent topics

As msilbernagel mentioned, The old one, is a great site, but doesn't say alot
about what they use.

Here's my next question, How much are you willing to spend on your MOTOR?
since you fully built the head you might as well fully build the bottom end.

eagle rods are okay, but crower rods are great considering the price! 647.00
b18a/b = b20b/z same rods and part number

11.8:1 is a great compression ratio for the pistons.

VTEC block Oil squirters: very important, keeps pistons well oiled during high rpms
skunk 2 IM manifold
Type R throttle body
some rc injectors, i'm gonna either run 310cc or 370 haven't decided
definitely a new clutch.
what ecu will you be running? b20/vtecs eats up a lot fuel, just to tell u
apex vafc
new water pump (vtec one)
new oil pump(type r)

if you read the old one, there is a section where to reinforce the bottom end
w/ a gsr girdle or type r girdle + windage tray/ get a moroso pan and pick up

for a NA car , I "heard" that the b16 tranny is best.

My tranny consist of:
00' b16a2 hydro tranny
type r lsd
ls 5th gear (for cruising purposes, lower rpm)
type r final drive.
and you should be fine,

if your going this route you are definitely gonna hit mid to hi 12's

I'm also currently in the process of building b20/vtec

It takes time and money, but make sure u do it right.

Don't worry about the R/S too much... It does effect the way a motor revs tho I know there are people out there that will argue with me on this... Use pistons with a standard height wristpin and standard length rods... It will keep your R/S right at the stock 1.54... As for the motor what kind of racing are you planning on??? I would consider swapping out those cams if you are into drag... They are basically a big CTR cam... Really nice midrange but NOT a lot of peak power... I have many friends with CRVTEC motors all running a variety of cams all with basically the same bottom ends... stock sleeved running 84.50mm JE 12.0-12:5 slugs... As for their heads... All Portflow... NOW the cams... I personally don't like the Toda B's... They just don't have that top end pull... Don't get me wrong about those cams... They are cool but JUN3's and SK2ST2+ cams have made a lot more power for us... Just about all the cars are on TUNED on Hondata too including the one with Toda's... My friend David with the Toda's has like a best of a 13.0 in his EG... A lot of that is because he can't drive but still... My friend Chan running a CTR IN cam and a never dyno tuned (only by feel) runs consistent 12.60's@106-108 in his full interior EK... He actually bought Toda B's and the valvetrain but after seeing how David's car likes he bought a full JUN3 setup... We're gonna put his car on Hondata within the next couple of weeks... DYNO first with the CTR cam/VAFC, then with Toda B's and Hondata, then lastly the JUN3's which he is gonna keep... On of my other friend's old CRVTEC's that was built like a year and a half ago was running JUN3's and that car ******* strong... Top end just never stops pulling... Unfortunately that motor blew up when the intake cam shattered on us... It's only because we were STUPID and tried to see if JUN3's would run on Portflow springs which are just too damn stiff and bottom out... Tho we never got to run that car at the track it definately was stronger than Chan's in the same chassis (EK)... Oh well, just my $0.02 on the situation... Again I know that a lot of people will disagree but this is all from my experience... Good Luck
EDIT... People may also say that this is stupid but Chan's motor revs to 8400rpm on STOCK rods...(ARP rod bolts of course) The old CRVTEC with the JUN3's went to ~9000rpm on stock rods... If you're takin the time to build the motor I would just throw in some Eagle or Crower Econo Billets, they'll be fine for a naturally aspirated stock sleeved motor...

Just get Eagle rods for a b20 application and you will be fine.

EDIT: I would say get some 11.5 JE's or Arias's pistons. You should be able to rev it to 8500-9000.
