intake air bypass system in a 91
what exactly does the intake air bypass (IAB) system do? will it hurt the engine if it is removed? why is it that it only came on the 91 models and then some other EX and SE? could i just remove the solenoid and plug up the outlet on top of the intake manifold? thats what is done on my buddies DX, so any suggestions and thoughts would be much appreciated. thanks.
I believe that it responds to engine rpm. Above 4700 rpm the secondaries open up to allow more air into the engine. It was designed to allow better torque at low rpm (valves closed) and better power at high rpm (valves open). I have a DX so I can't tell you if how well it accomplishes this but the theory sounds good. I would leave it be since engineers would not spend the time, money, and research if it were not worth it. (ie: Leaving it out, as in the DX, would be cheaper and easier so it must do some good). I have heard that it is heavier than the DX intake but, unless you plan to replace it with an aftermarket intake, you might as well use it. Peace
yea, i got a short ram intake on mine right now. the reason i brought up this topic was because a while back, i read a "complete guide to cold airs" thread on here. i believe it said to remove the IAB, but i can't find the thread, so, i dunno. thanks man.
