violently shaking car, but only every now and then
ok, i'm having a problem I just rencently got an alignment, (the car did it before the alignment too, but i thought that was what the problem was) it seems as if sometimes when i speed up to about 50 mph my car will start shaking violently, it's kinda scary, also when the car is stopped I can take the steering wheel and turn it from side to side and i can hear some sort of a knocking noise. It's like there is a crap load of freeplay in the wheel it doesn't matter if the wheels are totally straight or if they are turned to the left or right it will still do that.
I was reading my helms manual and it said something about a rack guide screw, I haven't played with this yet, but i think i may do that to see if it will solve my problem, do you guys think that the racke guide screw is the problem?

could be the rack itself; tierods, the bushing on the rack. I would say start w/ the cheapest/easiest to fix which is probably the bushing, then tie rods, and then if all else fails the rack itself. This has actually been discussed a couple of times in the last few weeks.
Dude I was just about to tell you that that was the problem, I had the samething done to my crx as well. n.e ways glad you got it fixed.

The problem is well know in EF's mainly due to the cars being old and the bolts just vibrating loose. You'll notice the play in your steering wheel when you turn and as well for the violet shaking.
