well there are Cable trannies and there are Hydro trannies. Most of the newer hondas have hydro... I think the b16a1 was the last cable tranny but dont quote me on that one. Anyways, hydro trannies are basically what they say the work off of a hydraulic pump instead of a cable, IMO they are much smoother, run more efficiently, i hear they are slower shifts, but.... they are good trannies good for daily driver.
can you still use 5-speed or 6-speed trannies or do you have to have an automatic tranny? that is what i am confused about.

nothing to do with number of gears...just the way the trans mechanisms work. 6speed didnt come around till dc5s...and basically civics 92+ and tegs (wanna say the b18a had cable?) 94+ come with hydro...
Wow...
It's not the transmission at all!! It's the clutch! Either a cable-operated or hydraulically-operated clutch.
Some cars have cable-operated shifters, but I haven't seen that on a Honda (manual).
