The car is a 91 Accord LX. Whenever I have driven the car and parked it, I can hear the relay for the fan going crazy (turning on/off) along with my radiator fan turning on/off along with it. This usually goes on for about 30-35 mins, and this week it seems like my fan was on all night therefore killing my battery the next morning.

I have no clue what is wrong. I of course changed the relay, no change at all. I also had the radiator changed this winter (it was old and leaky) and still nothing new. My only solution to this annoying problem is waiting 10 mins in my car for it to cool down, and then yanking out the relay so I can be sure it wont be killing my battery once Im out.

Any suggestions/places I should look for?

 

Sounds like the temperature switch. It's supposed to have enough deadband so it doesn't cycle on & off when the car's not running. That was probably just acting flaky before it finally died. It's screwed into the thermostat housing on newer cars, maybe the same on yours?

BTW, your relay might not have been bad. It was just doing what the temp.switch told it to do.

 

there is a fan timer on that model, I believe it is under the pass. seat.

 

Thanks for the replies guys.. I also forgot to mention that I have also already replaced the temperature switch (on the thermostate housing) last year with one that is almost new (well, I grabbed it from scrap yard of a Prelude)

I guess Im going to be looking for a fan timer? I am not sure where its located for the 91 accord (I dont rememebr seeing anything when I had the carpet out on my accord last year, I can check though.

help.. anyone?

 

it's by the steering column just a bit to the left held by a 10mm head size bolt small black box aobut 4x5x1 If I'm not mistaken it has a 6 pin plug.
