I have a 2000 LS and I don't think my key has a chip in it. Did all the keys that came with the car have the chip or just one? Becuase I only got one key when I bought it.

The 2000 and 2001 models came with the immobilizer. An easy way to check is when you put the key in or out of the ignition a little green light(pic of key) on the dash will blink.

So if I wanted to get a spare key made would I have to go to the dealership and buy one of the blanks with a chip in it? I was actually looking on eBay for Acura key blanks, but didn't see any that looked like mine. Anyone know how much the dealer would charge?

Do these things actually work? You hear of so many 00-01 Tegs still getting stolen. I doubt all of them were towed.

you cant just buy blanks, you have to bring your title or registration and they will order a copy for you. (~$45)

If the car is a manual, the theif may not be able to start the ignition, but can easily push start it.

my 2000 has it...

easy way to tell...when you start the car, look in the lower left corner of the guage cluster. if you see a green key light up will all your other warning lights, you have a chipped key.
