broken crank pulley.... osaka FUN!
well last night i desided to install my cam gears and new timing belt on my h22.
after removing the plastic shields and whatnot, and preparing to remove the crank pullye, i realized, that it looked crooked and wobbly. so i cranked over the motor a few times and then pulled the crank pulley off. it broke into two parts.
lucky for me, i didn't just get the motor and install it. that'd definitly have been catastrophic engine damage if i had ran the motor like that.

to osaka
should i just get an OEM replacement for $77 from honda? or get an aftermarket one? i hear bad things about lightened crank pulleys...
thanks for listening.

you need to contact osaka and get a new one. they have a warranty.
and if just the pulley broke it wouldnt be catastrophic.
your alternater would stop, ac wouldnt work and PS wouldnt work (if any of those are installed)
the timing belt would still be on.

i contacted them. they said its too late. i should have asked for it the day after i got the motor.
with the broken crank pulley, the way it broke like a little O inside a big O it would just spin freely. would have bent some valves at least.
i'm not sure if i want to try a junkyard, i might as well get the part new so i don't have to worry about failure.

Fuggi yeah dont bother with a junk yard, although crank pulleys usually dont break - thats one less thing you have to worry about. You dont want to save yourself $40 only to end up HAVING it break and having to fix valves or even worse later.
And no he cant use one off his old motor - his car is a civic, new motor is an H22, the parts are not compatible last time I checked.

You can however use the pulley off a d motor for a b motor right?
Yeah thats what im saying, im pretty sure D/B are not compatible with H series motors. Its not the CAR that matters, ist the engine. Just because its a civic doesnt mean it uses a civic pulley - just like it wont use civic cams, or civic exhaust manifold. The only ones I think would work are H/F series.

misread on the h22, thought it said b-series (since thats what most have). Maybe get a stock one and have it professionalyl cut and balanced. Might as well get some perf upgrades.
