Default is it not possible to change oil pump without taking off oil pan?

I'm trying to replace an oil pump...but I'm afraid I've got to take off the oil pan and what not.

Problem is, the engine is on the ground on a pallet still.

Any ideas?

Not possible!

You'll have to remove the oil pan in order to remove the oil pickup tube.

alright...so I've got a major problem now.

H22, going in my civic. I don't want to try to mess with the timing belt, balance belt etc with it in the car, but on the other hand I don't have a way to get to the oil pan with the engine still on the pallet!

Put it on a hoist and do it?

have you got an engine stand?? or even an engine lift?

if so, it's simple. otherwise, you'll have to wait.

er, and the timing belt is still a bitch unless you have the tool for the hydrolic tensioner.

i installed my cam gears and new timing belt last night, and well, ran into the problem of the tensioner. damn thing wont go on!

Yeah that auto tensioner sucks I ended up using a hose clamp, zip ties were not cutting it for me.

Why can't you wait till you drop the motor in the car to change the oil pump? The oil pan is easily accesable. How many miles does an oil pump last?

well I've got a lift.....I just don't know how safe I'll feel underneath that thing unbolting the oil pan

Yeah, I let the tensioner get fully extended, and I don't know what I'm gonna do now. haha. Is there no way to depress it?
