Default APEX N1 B pipe + Stock ITR Muffler... it fits!

Well I got a fix it ticket a while back and I didn't want to replace my whole N1 Catback with a stock one to get the ticket written off so I pondered if a stock axleback would bolt onto my Apex B pipe.

Dennis and I tried it yesterday and surprisingly it works! We just had to go to the hardware store and buy bigger bolts/nuts.

The only problem I see is with the Stock axleback using a donut gasket and the Apex B pipe using a regular flat gasket, I have a small exhaust leak toward the bottom. I think that can be remmedied by getting 2 or 3 gaskets and piling them all on there! LOL.

So anyway, I'm thinking of just getting a Spoon N1 Axleback and throwing it on there with my Apex B pipe rather than buying the T1R b pipe.

Does anybody want to buy a mint condition Apex N1 Catback/Axleback? heh.

UPDATE: Just checked the exhaust right now and there's no more leak.

I don't think the Spoon N1 axle-back will bolt up to your N1 b-pipe. I think the Spoon only bolts up to the T1R b-pipe and obviously Spoon b-pipe..

i dont have an ITR, i have a 97 hatchback.
however, i had a JDM/OEM CTR muffler on my car with a 2.5" b-pipe.
the CTR muffler needs a donut style gasket instead of a flat style gasket to correctly seal.. although i used a flat style gasket

then i opted for a spoon N1 axle back and it bolted up fine to my b-pipe.. except i still need the donut gasket to prevent any exhaust leak, but thats no biggie.

that means that the spoon n1 axle back is the same length as my old stock CTR axel back. so if a stock ITR axle back fits on his apexi b-pipe.. i'm sure the spoon n1 will also. HTH

Spoon, T1R, Vision, & OEM B Pipes all share the same Style Flanges and Length. So any of them can bolt to a stock system.
Spoon N1 is a Bolt On Axleback meaning it bolts onto the OEM B Pipe, Which in turn means it bolts to ANY of the above B Pipes.

PS I stick to what I originally said about it bolting to the Apexi B Pipe, It "Might" fit but the Style of Flange on the B Pipe is Not the correct one. Apexi Uses a flat gasket while Spoon uses a Donut Gasket. You'll most likely have leaks with the Apexi B pipe.

Like I noted above, I do have an exhaust leak because of the different gaskets, but I think that issue can be fixed with a little imagination.

I think the Spoon N1 Axleback will bolt on for sure, and I will definitely sacrifice a little exhaust leak for ~300 on a new B pipe

The sound is exactly the same as stock but it does vibrate barely because of the mismatch in gaskets.

VTEC doesn't sound as good with the stock muffler anymore and it doesn't pull as hard, although it does feel torquier (duh).

If the stock muffler bolts onto a T1R B pipe, and the stock muffler bolts onto my apex b pipe, then naturally a Spoon Muffler should bolt onto an Apex B pipe. Its the process of deduction.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see

Check your ticket.

Just so you know... some of these "fix it" tickets count towards your "negligent operator" count on the CA DMV.

This would be my first "negligent point" against my record...

You think its gonna bolt up for sure??? i dont get it...

Why is there sooooo much controversy over something so minimal. Not directing this towards you skafia, but it seems like most people are soooo concerned with what axle back is gonna match with what b-pipe. When its all said and done, its nothing that a muffler shop cant fix for $5 and make everything match up with everything. just my .02.

People are so concerned because I feel that as a customer, I rather buy something that bolts up rather than have to run to the shop even if it's close to fix a problem that shouldn't be there in the first place.

I do see what you are saying though and I think that if people want to mix and match exhausts then be prepared to go to the muffler shop for something custom.

I understand what you're saying Dennis, but once you start mixing and matching things, you gotta expect some complications, it wont just be a simple "bolt on"

Once you start packing the flange with gaskets, and doing things that arent supposed to be done, those equal complications and therefore it is no longer a simple bolt on

As I noted above, there is no exhaust leak. So what complications are there!?

just reuse the donut gasket (they are expensive! around $30) and use it in place of the flat one that came with the N1 system. I have had a Greddy b-pipe mated to a itr axle back for over a year this way. no leaks./

I had a spoon axleback mated to my thermal with a donut gasket in there. Worked fine.

im also running a apexi bpipe to my itr axle back. the bpipe was just laying around and i thought i'd try it out to see what i could gain. they mated up fine with 2 cheap gaskets along with the one apexi provides to prevent any leaks. i haven't checked for carbon deposits for some time now but the only issue i have is a little resonance b/w 3.5-4k when youre accelerating in 2nd and 3rd gear. the bpipe didnt make much of a sound difference, but it was noticable.
