Default Tires with directions are bad.

I got my car's alignment today.
The alignment guy said you need tires man, and said not to get the tires which
have directions on them. (meaning tires which say rotation and have )
He said those tires are junk, and always pull to the right, no matter which car.

I never heard of this?
can someone please conform.

I have directional tires and it barely pulls to the right, but that' negligible due to the horrid roads where I live. The balance and alignment of the car all depends on who's doing it. If he's an idiot then he'll screw it up.

plus when you have directional tires it makes it a little more difficult to balance and rotate the tires like you are suppose to. you have to take tires off the rims in order to keep them going the right direction, unless you just swap the front and back ones out. i had directionals and my tire guy hated when i came in because a conventional rotation of tires is back to the front, front switch sides and to the back. which meant he had to take the tires off the front wheels and switch the directions on them.

of course i never saw the problem with just swapping front and back tires....

if i ramble on i am tired as hell just overlook me

You need to find another alignment shop! I have been using directional tires for many years and that statement is just totally not true. Sounds like this guy is lazy and doesn't want to deal with the hassle keeping the directionals going the correct way.

This guy doesn't seem to know his *** from a hole in the ground. If directional tires are that bad, then why do tire manufacturers make them, they have obviously have put in thousands if not millions in to research and development before making directional tires. Maybe he thought he could sell you a new set of tires.

I think it would be a good idea not to go back to this guy ever again.

I have never heard anything like that before. I have been on a set of yokohama avids for over a year now and they are directional. My car does not pull the the right. I have had 4 alignments in the past year (done suspension work, etc...) and have never heard anything like this.

Just to let you know, a real tire rotation is front to back. I worked at a tire shop for years and that is the true way to do it. So no, you don't have to dismount the tires when you do a REAL rotation.

Only reason he probably hates directional tires is because I bet half the time when he mounts them he dosn't put them on the right way haha . I have Toyo T1-S tires which are directional and I will never get any other set of tires.

I have directional tires and I like them better than any radial tire I ever had.

uuhhhhh..i dont see how directional tires would pull. It must be the extra weight from the directional arrow that causes the pull to the right. ha

I guess all those manufacturers like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Jaguar, and of course
the Honda NSX and S2K. they must all be crap....
Thats one funny guy,,,,,does he actually mount and balance anything smaller
than a 31/10.50/r15 ha ha ha. Just kidding.
I do know this, I've seen good tires that were directional develope a "pull"
but after removing it we found where the tire was impacted and the strength
comprimised. Anyway...Sorry I flamed, but that was funny.

Make sure your tires are balanced, and your toes are good. Also you may want to check out your camber. I just had everything looked at last week, and I don't have any more problems. I would take the car somewhere else. Anyone who says directional tires suck has got to be a moron.

that happens to me alittle too, but only when accelerating... since i dont have an lsd i figured it was the torque from the left wheel pushing the car right and the tires grip so well and the sidewall is so stiff that it just goes... either way, small price to pay for awesome grip and wet weather handling.

The directional tires will grip and follow the road way better than any non-directional tires, so if the road slopes to the right then the tires might pull to the right a little bit, but if it slopes to the left they will pull left too. It's not the tires, it's the roads. I love my Ecsta Supras... Directional tires forever baby!

Please do not forget TIRE PRESSURE...
A small difference from right side to left really shows up when your tires are good
and warmed up.

I have toyo fz4's. They are pretty decent, no pull, and they are really good in the rain. Better than any of my friends tires for sure.
