Speed Ventures Track Day at Texas World Speedway
Anybody from Cali can tell you, this is a first class outfit all the way, the have a special S2000 series they are running in Texas also. Read on.
Speed Ventures (www.speedventures.net) will be running a two-day event
at Texas World Speedway next weekend, April 12,13 on the 2.9 mile road
course. Speed Ventures is a California-based organization offering a
multi-faceted program designed to accommodate all levels of
participation. These include beginners who receive performance driving
instruction (PDI), as well as solo hotlappers with prior experience, and
advanced drivers and wheel to wheel racers looking to test, tune, or to
get some track time and practice.
Speed Ventures is also host to make specific Challenge Series -
"qualifying" series run in a safe, controlled passing format where each
driver has 2.5+ hours to set his/her fastest lap of the day.
To accommodate different skill levels, Speed Ventures has set up three
run groups, beginner (yellow), intermediate (white), and advanced (red).
Passing rules in yellow and white allow for passing ON THE LEFT only and
WITH A POINT-BY only, and only in DESIGNATED STRAIGHTS PASSING ZONES.
Passing in the red group is anywhere WITH A POINT-BY.
Speed Ventures owns and operates an AMB timing system with rental
transponders to provide print-outs of laptimes after each session.
Drivers can also use their own AMB transponders if they wish. Speed
Ventures views timing as an educational tool for beginners,
intermediate, and advanced drivers looking to chart their progress or
experiment with various driving techniques are car set-ups. AMB timing
is not an indication of competition.
The AMB timing system is also used to run various "Challenge Series"
events. These are "Qualifying"/Time Trial type events where
participating drivers have all day to set their fastest lap of the day.
We have established Challenge Series' for Honda S2000's (nationally
known as the "Speed Ventures S2000 Challenge"), Corvette's,
WRX/Impreza's, and Miata's, with more on the way. The April 12,13 event
marks the first of a two-part series in Texas: the "John Eagle Honda
Texas S2000 Challenge Series", which will be followed up by a three-day
event in September which will also serve as the national runoffs.
The Qualifying format enables drivers to use our run groups to improve
their lap times and work to set their fastest lap of the day provided
they obey the passing rules and all safety, courtesy, and hotlapping
etiquette. The qualifying format is a safe format as it allows drivers
to take their time working to set their best lap, providing them with
2.5 hours, or more, of time to do so, rather than only a few laps as in
a typical time trial.
Regardless of each individual's level of participation, safety is
strictly (but politely) enforced.
Speed Ventures run sessions for the upcoming event will be 30 minutes
long, with 5 per group per day (2.5 hours per day). The pricing at our
event will be $250 for 2-days and $150 for one day for participants.
Timing and transponders will be available for free to the first 60
signups (normally $40). Timing w/out transponder rental (bring your own
transponder) is free for all at this event. Instruction fee for
students is $30/day. Instruction is REQUIRED for those with no prior
experience on a road race circuit and for anyone who is not familiar
with all aspects of hotlapping safety and etiquette. Speed Ventures
offers either a 1-1 or 2-1 student-instructor ratio, depending on
instructor availability.
