Default HELP! Engine trouble

I don't know a whole lot about cars so please bear with me.
I own a 1994 Accord EX with the only thing done to it was the removal of the resonator box and a set of coilovers. My check engine light came on yesterday but I noticed nothing wrong with the car until I got on it. Around 5000 RPM the car died like it was sucking for air and there was a loss of power throughout the RPM range. So I checked under the hood for vacum lines disconnected or wires fried, things like that. I didn't see any but of course I didn't even know which ones to check. I also unhooked the sensor that sits ontop of the whre the fuel and air mix. When I got back in the car and started it up the check engine light
was off and it would tach out fine but the light would come on immmediately after the car idled a little. Can I get some suggestions on simple diagnostics for the problem and any ideas on what exactly may be wrong? I also have info on codes for the check engine light but they do not show exactly where the plug is located, does anyone have any idea?
Please help a poor lost soul. Thanks.

You almost surely have a bad sensor somewhere. I know my Chevy S-10 did something like that when the temperature sensor went bad. Sometimes it would barely move under it's own power, and it smoked too. When you first start your car it is running "open loop" and ignoring the snesors, so that is probably what happened after your troubleshooting session.

I'm not sure how to check codes in your car. I know in my S-10 I went to a local Hole-in-the-wall auto parts store and they pointed me to a guy who does a little mechanic work on the side out of his garage. He had a diagnostic tool that would read the output data from the sensors, and the temp sensor was telling the computer some absurd reading, like -100 F or something. Threw on a new sensor and it ran like a top. Cost me $20 for the diagnosis (much cheaper than at a "real" shop), $25 for the sensor, and a six-pack for the install (didn't have my tools with me at the time). If your computer can give you a code telling you which sensor is bad you can have that thing running again in minutes. You might want to search the archives or do a web search to find out how. Maybe your Honda dealer could tell you too.
