First time I've ever heard of anything like that. Mine seems to work fine. Get a new detector or borrow a friends and see if it still does it.

mine goes off if you honk the horn too. it also would go off in my 91 Si (RIP) when i went over 65mph?!?! but not in my 90 Si or my 87. it is like 5 yrs old and from walmart, but its saved me quite a few times though. it even goes off in like certain spots every time even though there is nothing around. im sure its an easy answer...just have to research how radar detectors work, i dont have time right now though.

i had the same problem as you. when i revved past 2500 rpms, the laser reading would go off. i was told it was an electrical problem, either plug wires or distributor cap/rotor. so i changed all three of those, but i got the same problem. so i took the radar detector out, and im rocking a police scanner now. im thinking about a valentine one radar detector, heard those were tight, but i dont want that same problem that happened with the old one i had.

check your voltage, when the voltage going to the detector drops below a certain voltage, it will trigger it to go off, i would check the circuit that you have the detector on

volt are good, i have pluged my friends in he has the escort passport 8500 and it work fine. i know its something with the distributor and a sign that it send out.
i guess i will have to save some money for the escort.

i've heard that the escort 8550 and the bel 980 are better than the valentine anyway. they're smaller, cheaper, and detect radar a lot better. the valentine does detect laser better, but laser's an instant on thing, so by the detector picks it up the cop already has your speed.
