My oil temps (cooler needed?)
Hey guys.. I installed coolant and oil temp gages over the winter, and just got home from a 3 day track event at BeaveRun. Here are the numbers:
-freeway driving-
Coolant temp: 195 f
Oil temp: 195 f
-Extended idle-
Coolant temp: 210 f
Oil temp: 210-215 f
-On track-
Coolant temp: 210 f
Oil Temp: 220-230 f
The oil temp never got over 230, and as far as I know all pure senetic oils (ie. amsoil, redline) have no problems running at temperatures up to 250, so I think I’m ok. I would just like to know what you guys think? Should I try to get the oil temp down to 210 on the track?
The oil temp sensor is on the high pressure side of the oil pump, and the water temp sensor is right after the coolant leaves the block.
I have not bothered with an oil cooler since as you noticed the oil temps on the Prelude stay under 250. To me it is just one more thing that can break. Also, your coolant temps are a little higher than mine. I rarely break 195 but I don't have a A/C condenser.
