Weird whinning noise in all gears on acceleration only, please help
Suddenly a weird kinda whinning noise creeped up on me. This happens in all gears (1-5) under regular to semi-aggressive acceleration. But if i drive in a moderate way and ease the acceleration to shift at 3k or so, i dont hear it. When Im on the highway (or sreet) cruising at 70mph (or 35-40) i dont hear it. But if i want to increase speed and step on the pedal kinda hard (not full throttle), I hear the noise for a few seconds and then it goes away. But if I easily step on the gas I dont really hear it. Im not sure if any of you can understand me. I wish i can take some of you for a test drive as this is driving me up the wall. I even took local mechanic for a drive and he said the same problem is on his accord but cant figure it out. He said that it could be the air filter or intake. I cleaned the air filter and put my oem air intake back in and the problem is still there. Again, I dont hear the noise when the speed is constant. But if i increase speed, then i hear it for a few seconds and it goes away.
Mine did that too, it was the input shaft bearings in the tranny. When we pulled the tranny you could feel a lot of play in the input shaft. Bad countershaft bearings will do the same thing as well. I was not sure at first what it was either but after driving on it hard for like 3 weeks it started popping out of 2nd and 5th gear if you did not hold the shifter in gear while deaccelerating. If I were you I would start shopping for a new tranny.
