Phillip ???
Sorry Phil, didn't catch your last name. Hopefully I didn't butcher your first one too bad.
Qualifying took place in the rain on a very crowded track. By race time the track had prettymuch dried out. Jason Franza chose not to qualify in the rain and started at the back of the race pack. The race itself was very strange. Following a spin in turn 1 by a non-HC car, the pack was stopped after one lap and restarted after two more laps behind the pace car. On the second lap after the restart, David Rhodes broke down in turn one, leaving him, and later the tow truck sitting on the outside of turn one with a local yellow. Shortly thereafter, a 944Cup car broke down track right after turn 11, resulting in dual localized yellows, and dual towtrucks attemting retrieval while racing continued.
Needless to say, the local double-yellows, accompanied by a white flag made for a less than ideal situation for the drivers. In H1, James Evans was leading the pack (and the entire HC field) until he developed driveshaft problems - slowing him greatly and allowing some of the pack to catch and pass him. Shortly thereafter, Chad Slagg, driving the R&D Motorsports car, lost an engine and as put out of the race. The charging John Whitaker came from third place to take the win. In H2, Corey and Adam battled back and forth the entire race, including one pass under yellow (oops) - but it didn't effect the race outcome. As Adam and Corey caught the crippled James Evans, Corey managed a late pass of both cars going into 13 with Adam slowed behind Evans, Corey pulled out enough room to seal the victory.
Rice, Rice, Rice.... takes home his first win of the series. Qualifying seventh overall in the Rain, Shultz was praying for more rain. His prayers didn't come true, but he successfully held off Phillip, although a trip through a corner 3-wide left both of their cars a little worse for wear.
I'm sure someone can provide a better writeup, and more details for you, but this'll get you started.

Nice write up, Jeff. I want to give a HUGE thanks to my crew for swapping over full suspension, header, exhaust, doors, TB, radiator, and bumper from the cooked B16 shell to Chads daily driver, turned Sunday racer. It sucks to take pole in qualifying only to be disappointed like this. Gives us a bit more time, though, to get a B18 prepped for next race. The B16 ran good, though, until cooling killed her. And, as always, the Carbotech/Fastbrakes setup kicked a$$. Guess we will see what tomorrow holds.

Sunday:
H1: Chad Slagg (Whoo-Hoo!!)
H2: Corey
H3: That Phillip guy in Scotts old car
H4: Kent
H5: Edwards
Whitaker gets the "Damn, that things busted" award. A caliper bolt fell off, allowing the caliper to ride against the wheel and is sawed it IN HALF. In the Iron vs Aluminum battle, Iron wins every time.
Matt<---may begin looking an H5 car after tax returns, to make that more than a class of one....

Damn Chad is a beast. He's been behind the wheel of his car more in the past week than I have in the last month. What motor was in the car for the win on sunday?

first off.....THANKS TO DAVE at RandD Motorsports FOR letting me drive THE CAR!!!!!! daniel, Eon the peeon, ryan and seth (i think that is wrong) who worked soooo hard on the car before i even showed up and for their hard hard hard work all weekend....without them the win on sunday much less even getting out there would not have been possible.
Saturday
2 practice sessions in a car i have never driven before.....dang this beast is great.... eg with buddy clubs, b16a an massive weight reduction.
qualifying was in the rain and i took poll.....
in the race the dude in that spec car wouldn't let me get the inside....so i started on the outside.....he rolled me into turn one and after 2 laps the car was overheating (problem all day thought we had it fixxed) only got 7 laps in before i called it quits... temp guage needle was pegged to the top for 3 laps....i wanted the points!!!!! if we would have stayed out another 2 laps we would have gotten the win because leader broke an axel....
so i come into the pits we park the car and pull the plugs...they look fine....but the compression check was 130 across the board....we know we shouldn't run that car anymore....but I STILL WANTED TO RACE ON SUNDAY!!
i tell dave hey we have the spare car that i drove here from arizona....dave thinks about it.....we think well do we pull my engine an put it in his car or do we pull everything else (suspension is basically all we could swap since both cars are stripped) and put it on my car....
after we huddled with the crew we decided that 2 guys would work on changing one corner at at time and i would start on the engine bay.....we stole my radiator on saturday because it was a dual core and also the kill switch from my car the transponder....the thermo switch....so we started working.....
2 hours later we fire my car up and take if for a spin....holy cow.....
what was changed in 2 hours.....
FULL SUSPENSION
HEADER AND EXHAUST
T-body
INTAKE
KILL SWITCH
FRONT BUMPER
TRANSPONDER
RADIATOr
and DOORS!!!!! woo hooooooo
all of this was done track side and all parts were reinstalled on the other car in 2 hours!!!!!!!!!!!! so we had a car for sundays race.
we had quite the audience for awhile watching us work.
the crew really kicked *** serious ***......i was happy i was gonna be racing....
sunday practice...we mess with suspension an tire pressures....this is so much easier with a crew and once again we dialed in the car....
qualified 4th out of a 30 car field since we were running with small bore guys. so this was basically in a new car cause suspension had been changed. I was happy dave and da PEE-ONS (inside joke)were very happy...ran a 1'52 and change which was faster than my best time last time.....james evan qualified with a 149....he was rollin!!!!
so on to the race.....
started 4th and got to second after the first corner.....dang i love TQ!!!! anyways.....i caught james and was on his bumper in t4 when he hit the brakes and i lifted so i didn't hit him and that whipped the rear out.....ohhh crap the worst thing to do...but i was back in the throttle and eventually saved it and held my posistion but i was on the grass on the inside of 5-6 almost to the corner station...
held that position for a few laps before i let one of the indy cars by....after 5 or 6 laps of clean driving we hit lap traffic in t3....i decided to go wide and that was a mistake....i got caught behind a slower 944 and a couple slower honda cars.....so i decided to go on the outside from turn 7-8 IN THE GRASS 4 wheels off to get the pass.....i passed him at about 90 in the grass then cut over to the inside and made another pass.....by that time corey had gone inside and was gone.....
after a battle with an itr and some close calls i saw a cv boot in the middle of 5 and knew james axel had let go again....and sure enough i saw him on the back straight.....after passing james i really let up since i had the win in the bag as long as i didn't do anything stupid....so after running 6 laps of 1'52.7-1'52.04's i backed it off and ran some 1'59s just to make sure i finished.....sure enough finished the race.....i finished 1st in h1 and not sure nor do i care what postition overall since well it don't matter....
and just so you all know corey doesn't have anything for me in the straights till 130mphs......
overalll a great weekend....and am now tied for first with john whitiker.....woo hoo.....so i guess it was worth the trip from az to cali to sc!!!
again thank you PEE-On's!!!!!

Glad to hear you won today Chad. Thats awsome. I think it took us less than an hour to changeover the suspension and most of the other small things.
Congratulations Chad, that's good stuff. Congratulations again Corey - very nice driving there birthday boy err. birthday man. Still loving the "point", you had quite a few newfound fans in the T1 gallery
As to where American Iron was, AI was turning 49s themselves actually (Shugg/Hoover both did in qualifying Saturday and I heard Hoover did in the race today as well).

Something about gaining track position? I don't know if that redily applies to trying to a.) avoid incident or b.) a lapped car. It might, I ain't sure tho (and thought it was pertaining to gaining position - have to give it back or get a time/black flag).
Hey Phil, it was good to meet you (came by and introduced myself Saturday before qualifying). Nice job driving out there and glad you are already home
Man that's a hella drive. Congratulations.

yes i went 3 or 4 off to pass a car i would have hit in the rear.....she wasn't in my class or even run group so i did not gain any positions because of that....
