Default How to paint wheel hub? (Searched)

Has anybody ever painted their "wheel hubs" The part that you see when the wheel is on. Mine is rusted and I wanted to paint it. Has anybody ever done this before, and are there any pics.

I wanted to know if there was a write up or something, I just could not find anything.

Cobalt Friction sells brake rotors that are painted.

are you talking about that?

I would guess that you couldn't paint any of that cast iron stuff...rust is just too great to get a decent coat on.

I think I know what you're referring to. I painted the rusty rotor hats and the calipers on my 2001 Type R using Eastwood Co.'s high temperature silver (brushable) and Folia Tec's silver caliper paint. Just prep the rusty surface with a brass wire brush and brake cleaner.

Thanks for the positive comments, guys.

It took me the better part of a day to jack the car up, scrub and prep the brakes and wheelwells, and paint. The Folia Tec paint on the calipers takes at least 24hr to dry, and the second coat of Eastwood Co high temp paint on the rotors can be applied 24hr apart. I didn't drive the car for 5 days (It's not a daily driver).

Good luck.

Dean, really great cleanup job on your rotors and calipers ! Can the Eastwood paint and Folia Tec be found at any auto parts store ? Did you remove the calipers when you painted them ?

would that be safe if the paint cracks between the lugnuts?? cause if it does crack couldn't it possibly loosen the lugnut and there goes your wheel.

Couple of links for the painting supplies:

http://www.eastwoodco.com/

http://www.extremeredline.com/brake/...iper_paint.htm

LillGragun,
I wouldn't paint the cracks between the lugnuts. Nobody sees that part anyway.
