Default empty spot in my fusebox?

I noticed an empty spot in my underhood fusebox, but it has terminals in there for a fuse. I'm wondering if I could connect my sub amp power wire (only 10 gage) to the fusebox and stick the fuse in there? I like everything in my engine bay to look like it was original and came that way.

You probably could. You'd have to find its terminals on the bottom side. I wired my 2nd cig lighter this way using an empty underdash fuse slot.

You can as long as the fuse is less than a foot away from the battery because the wire between battery and fuse is unprotected by the fuse.

why does it have to be less than 1 foot away? The stock fuses are more than 1 foot away, aren't they?

the inline fuse on the power wire for an amp is there to protect the wire...the inline fuse should be no further then, if my memory serves me correctly, 18 inches from the battery...late

Edit: to answer your question, it's because there's more current going through an amp power wire then on the stock 18-22 gauge wire.

Yeah, the amp flows a lot more current then the others, the portion of the wire between fuse/circuitbreaker and the battery is unprotected, the longer this portion is, the greater chance of it shorting and catching fire.
The fuse is there to protect the wire, you should have a fuse protecting the amp as near as possible to the amp. Some amps have their own fuse built in.
