Hey, I was wondering if anyone here would be showing up at the Chicago Speedway for some autocross action tommarow. It'll be my first event, and it would be nice to have an experienced autocrosser walk me through all the basics.

Anyone?

I missed it, how did it go? There's an autox event this Sunday in Maywood Park. It'll be my first.

It was cold as hell! I worked the first heat, and I thought my fingers were going to fall off when I was out there. Tires wouldn't stay warm either. Things I learned at the auto-x:

Day at the Races!

Man...was it exciting. Woke up way early (6:00AM) to drive all the way down to Joliet, and participated in my first legal sanctioned race event! It was really exciting, about 160-170 cars (anything from Corvette Z06's to Oldsmobile Alero's) and a lot of learning to be done.

Things I learned:

1) tires are everything. You don't have good race tires, you can't be fast. Period

2) chicago weather SUCKS. I stood outside in the freezing cold for over 3 hours today, one of which I had to work the corner. Ugh...

3) don't make fun of other people's cars, you never know what can be fast. This rule works inversely too - even the fastest looking cars can be slow with bad drivers.

4) seat time is everything. I went from a 72 second DNF run to my best time of 60.2 seconds.

Overall, very fun. I'll be doing a lot more autocrossing - my only regret is that I can't start with a stock CRX again.

There's the results. My car was actually much more a g-stock car than a CSP car, so take that into consideration.
