Default DC 4-1 or Comptech 4-2-1

Which one will pull harder in top end on a GSR?

hmmm, how low is your car??? if your car is lower than 2" and have 15" RIM, i would recommend comptech, because dc 4-1 kinda hangs down low. it could scrach off the bottom. otherwise dc 4-1 is the best for power.

It doesn't matter what size rim you have, it's the overall wheel+tire diameter that matters

Okay -- I am going to go ahead and say that I think the Comptech will pull harder up top over the DC 4-1. If you mean JDM 4-1, then I'll change my story. But those DC 4-1's arent great, and on the great header test, the Comptech pulled harder than the DC 4-1 throughout the whole powerband, including up top. Not to mention that driving around town will be more enjoyable with the Comptech. Comptech costs more for a reason - because it is superior, and IMO, even on the top end.

I know in general people say:
4-2-1 - midrange,
4-1 - power,
but on a superior header, I do beleive that the top end on the 4-2-1 could indeed be better than a 4-1.

Just a thought, Im not saying I couldnt be wrong.

i agree w/ neo. i have a jg header w/ 2.5 collector. And I get really good midrange and topend power. The header is a 4-2-1 design. I had a 4-2-1 dc, and the jg made a nice difference.

I have the DC JDM 4-1 and i find that it pulls hard from fairly low down, around 3000rpm, i do find it bogs a little at half throttle driving around town in low gear, but at WOT and above 3000rpm it pulls very strong, right up to the redline in all gears.

My car now revs out a lot quicker too than with the stock header. theres a section of road near my house and theres a 90degree left turn on it, then approx 200meters up a steepish hill to another 90degree right turn, before i fitted the 4-1 if i took the bend in 2nd gear and floored it, i would just hit vtec (4400rpm) and no more before i had to brake for the next right turn, now with the DC 4-1 my car revs to 4800/4900rpm before i have to brake

My stock exhaust was a JDM 4-2-1 with 60.5mm collector and the 4-2 section is the same as the 96-98 JDM ITR 4-2, and i found a huge difference after fitting the DC 4-1

Yes, I'm talking about only the US Dc 4-1. I don't think it hangs as low as the JDM Type R 4-1 so I'm not worried about it hanging to low. Anyone have that link to the Greater header test? I've seen it before but it was a long time ago. I want to look at it again. I just need the header that's going to pull harder up top.

My friend -- I must tell you - if you insist on getting a 4-1 header, make it a DC JDM or OEM JDM header...that will indeed pull well up top. The JDM headers tied the Comptech header on the GHT. However, the standard DC 4-1 got rocked if I remember correctly.

So I should go with the Comptech then. I already have a Comptech catback so getting the JDM 4-1 will create a bottle neck.

::Cough:: SMSP, Hytech, Toda (all 4-2-1)

Great Header Test

There ya go - good point Scott. Id go Comptech (obviously Toda, Hytech, and SMSP will be better, but for the price, Comptech cant be beat!)

i would agree with you..but there are people running 215/45/16 azenis on spoon rims which has a bigger overall wheel+tire diameter than a 205/40/17..
and people here will argue that the smaller the rim, the better...period.

there are a number of people on this board claiming they made more midrange
and highend with this header of their JDM DC 4-1 or JDM 4-1.
this header also has great clearance to my understanding.

I have the Comptech exhaust already. If I go with a 2.5 in header, I will be creating a bottle neck.

But you will still have more power than a header with a smaller collector size.
