Best Buys: Helmet prices? and reccomendations
Sorry .RJ
Best buy forum wouldn't do me enough justice so i figured i'll come and ask the 'pros'
What helmets do you reccomend? Im currently borrowing an Arai helmet which i like, however, i dont have the budget for Arai helmets.
This would be for track events.
So i was wondering what are some good sites that have good prices?
Thanks in advance

Well, for track days, you'll want an SA2000 helmet.
SA = Special Applications (autosport)
2000 = the year the standard was released
"M" is for motorcycle and is fine for autocross and some track events. But some clubs require SA helmets.
Most clubs use a rolling 10 year lifespan. Snell updates the standards every 5 years. So for most clubs, you could use a SA95 or SA2000. Of course, SA95 is no longer produced and probably out of stock.
Always try a helmet on before buying. If you do mail order, be sure they have a flexible return policy. Some helmets just don't fit certain shaped heads.
I would stick to closed-face helmets - I like my jaw the way it is. And the visor is good too - if you wear an open face helmet, please buy goggles or good wrap-around sunglasses.
I use a Bell Sport. It was about $265 from OG Racing (www.ogracing.com). It's a SA95, so I can use it at the track until the SA05 helemts become available.

Snell and DOT are two entirely different approval processes and underwriting organizations. A Snell SA2000 helmet may or may not be DOT approved (remembering that the only reason DOT cares is for motorcyle use on the street).

i've read good reviews about G-Force helmets as well (right off of HT)
it seems like the list would go like so:
1) Bell
2) Simpson
3) G-Force
for SA2000 at least, not sure if i'm missing any big brand names but i believe those are the popular ones
of course, correct me if i'm wrong

i use a bieffe predator (sa2000). it took trying on a least a dozen helmets before i found one that fit my head right. once i put it on, i knew i'd have to buy it. i think i paid about $350 from og racing -- worth every penny since i can wear it all day.
I bought my Bell M2 (great for glasses) at www.truechoice.com. Under $300. Just used it today.
