How can I tell if I have a LSD in my tranny? (Y1)
How do I know if i have an LSD in my tranny? I was just curious because a friend of mine told me i may have one in my tranny because it is a Y1, but when i ordered my motor, they didn't say anything about it
If you look through the holes for the drive shafts and see a steel rod in between the holes, then it is not LSD.
If you don't see it, it could be LSD.
If it was a factory LSD, they might have stamped LSD on the transmission case.
People selling engines and transmission are pretty competent and would get the extra money if it has LSD.

Y1's had an optional LSD; but I'm told it's rare. The sure fire way to tell is to look through the holes where the axles go in. If you see a bar going down the middle, it is NON-lsd. If you can see straight through with nothing there, it's LSD.
EDIT: Damn. Beat me by like 30 seconds!

buzz kill, and Mr. s are exactly right, I have a Y1 w/lsd and there is a "LSD" stamp on the front of the tranny toward the top, and when the axles, intermediate shaft is out you can see right through it. If there is a bar or pin there it's not an lsd, if it has what kinda looks like a washer there, yet you can still see through it's a quaife which my J1 has
