Sloppy - Shift Linkage
My shift linkage feels sloppy as sin. After I am in gear, it just moves left to right like it is in nuetral. I got the polyurethane bushings and still the same feel. Any other ideas
Where the shift linkage connects to the shifter lever try tightening that bolt up. I know on most of them it will fix it pretty much, another option may be its loose at the tranny itself
Drive someone's Honda that does not have this play. You will soon realize that you can shift quicker with it. I don't know if you auto-x or not, but it really helps me.
I don't know what kind of shifter you have but i just recently installed a short shifter and it was sloppy because I didn't put on the spacer lookin things when I bolted it up. I had the bushings already on too. No sloppy shifts for me now.
geez luiz guys, i can't believe nobody came up with one of the reasons yet. The reason that most of you (and i) have the sloppy linkage is because where the shifter bar actually conects to the transmission there is a pin that needs to be punched in and out, this pin is not in all the way therefore you are only connecting this bar by the bottom part and not at the top part therefore giving you that sloppy feel, this can be fixed by putting the pin in properly.
yeah it could be the "bitch" pin but I would start at the shifter itself then to the tranny because most of the time its just a loose shift lever (shifter)

it is not the pin or the stabilizer bar I put the linkage on this past weekend when I put the motor back in. It won't hit fifth easily anymore. what will the bolts at the bottom of the shifter affect? I know it is tight but there are no bushings or anything.....
You are gonna need to get any and all bushings that are missing from the factory assembly at the shifter. It probably wouldn't hurt to just replace all of them, including the bolt. It should consist of a rubber washer on the outside, nylon washer, then the metal barrel that the bolt passes through, which whould have four rubbuer o-rings around it and a plastic sleeve around that, and then the two washers on the other side. The most common scenario is people are careless when disassembling the shifter and lose the washers on the outside and don't replace them.
