piston question
ok i got my car back after blowing f22b2 motor. we put in the b1 motor and i got a vtec ecu everything went fine. took the car back to get timing tuned and crap but the mechanic when testing it out, blew the pistons in the new motor so he is gonna buy me arias pistons and put them in. i am broke now after the swap clutch and crap. my question is with upgraded pistons and since the b1 has iron sleeves, how reliable is this engine at 10psi now since pistons r upgraded. basically does it help any
ok kool , im also going piggyback fuel computer , which do u guys prefer. smc, s/v afc, or hks super afr. i plqn to stay around 10 psi and get a msd 3 bar map
Boost level isnt the issue, tuning is.
F22B1/2 SOHC and F22B DOHC have FRM in the cylinder liner... You will gouge the crap out of the lining with forged pistons and lose compression in the first year and be left with a crap block... unless you sleeve it. Call Arias and talk to a tech...they are indredibly helpful.
It's the F22A1/4/6 that have the iron cylinder lining...not the F22B1/2.

The F22b1 has iron linings that can be bored over per the service manual.
The above is wrong please disregard.

You can bore FRM liners... but not very much at all, like if you were going .5 over.
What exactly does the manual say the tolerances are? and does it say EXACTLY what the liners are made out of?

Rebore limit is .5mm or .020in.
No mention of FRM or anything of the sort in the 2 inch thick OEM manual.

I have no experience with F22B1/2's, just the F22A1 and F22B DOHC so I cannot say for sure about the FRM liners in the F22B1/2 or not. I do know that the H22A and F22B DOHC use it and you have to run iron sleeves when using forged pistons to avoid the cylinder wall gouging that's been seen in H22A's running forged pistons without iron sleeves.
I would make sure that the F22B1/2 uses iron cyl lining before slapping in forged
pistons.
Niedejb: You sleeved your motor right? What brand/comp pistons are you running again?
thanks... already have the URL...
did you have a hard time getting someone on the phone? Or is it just me? must be a Fla thing...
Oh and how long did it take you to get your order?

so how much boost can the stock rods handle, i know with proper tuning 10 psi but since i upgraded my pistons im trying to see where i stand. i know resleeving is an issue, just looking for the rod info now
The rods arent all that wimpy.
Depending on what piston you went with the pistons may still be the weakest link.
If you go aftermarket piston, the rods should be capable of 15 psi since they handled my 13 psi and look 100% after building my new F.
